Ellen Schlossberg

Ellen Kinzler Schlossberg, age 83, of Chappaqua, New York passed away at New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital on January 1, 2025. Born in New York City on March 17, 1941, she was the daughter of I. George Kinzler and Isabelle (Schlivek) Kinzler Feher. Ellen grew up in Scarsdale, NY where she was the staff co-ordinator for The Maroon, her high school newspaper. The highlight of her adolescence was traveling aboard the Queen Mary and taking a grand tour of Europe with her grandmother. Ellen attended Syracuse University, where she met her husband, the late Dr. Irwin Schlossberg. They were married in 1964, and she graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration. After graduation Ellen worked in Syracuse's business office. Shortly after the birth of their first daughter, the family relocated to Mather Air Force Base Hospital in Rancho Cordova, CA where Ellen volunteered at the Red Cross Hospital and at the Officers Wives Club while her husband served in Vietnam. After the birth of their second daughter, the family moved to Chappaqua in 1972. Ellen served as Treasurer for her local Hadassah chapter, used her business skills to assist her husband's private medical practice, and worked as the bookkeeper for a local travel agent. She also volunteered in various organizations, including Girl Scouts of America, the Chappaqua School District, New Castle Recreation, and the Chappaqua Drama Group. She was passionate about town issues and was involved with various Chappaqua town boards as well as being a staunch supporter of the Chappaqua Police Department. She enjoyed a number of hobbies, especially needlepoint. Ellen is survived by her brother, Peter (Virginia) Kinzler; her daughters Karen (Mark) Hill and Judith (Gavin Fraser) Crosby; and her granddaughters Naomi Hill, Georgia Rose Fraser, Lucy Beth Fraser, and India-Mae Fraser.

A memorial service will be held May 24, 2025 at the First Congregational Church, 210 Orchard Ridge Rd, Chappaqua, NY from 1-3 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the New Castle Police B. A. or the American Lung Association.
