Elma Palmer Obituary
Glade Spring
Elma Abel Palmer, age 92, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022, at Valley Health Care in Chilhowie. Elma was born in Bland County, VA to the late Press and Sally Vestal Abel. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Roland L. Palmer; sisters: Helen Kelley, Oakie Palmer, Louise Holmes, Ruth Wyatt, and Mary C. Vanhoozier; sons-in-law, Scottie Lester, and Tom Steele. Elma was of the Adventist faith. She was one of the first CNA’s at Valley Health Care, and worked there for many years.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Lester, Glade Spring, and Alice Steele, Marion; sisters, Vernie Smith and husband Ivan, Bluefield, WV and Margaret Taylor, Saltville; granddaughter, Khristine Hughes; great-grandsons, Thomas Leafgreen, and John Leafgreen; great great-granddaughter, Rose Leafgreen; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 PM, on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie, with Rev. Andrew Vargas officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM, prior to services, at the funeral home. Burial at St. James Cemetery will be private. The family requests all visitors adhere to CDC COVID-19 protocols. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley’s Funeral Chapel, Chilhowie is serving the family of Mrs. Palmer.
