Elmer Murille "Dude" Alexander, 87, was born June 12, 1920 in Portageville, Missouri and passed away on May 25, 2008 in Spring, Texas. He was a former resident of Corpus Christi, Texas. Elmer was a decorated World War II veteran serving as an infantry squad leader in the U.S. Army, divisions 435 AA and 473 Inf. This veteran received two purple hearts, two bronze stars, and many other medals. Dude was a heavy equipment operator for over fifty years, enjoyed doing woodwork for his friends and family, and fishing with his grandchildren in his later years. Dude was blessed to have passed away with all of his loved ones surrounded by his bedside. He was preceded in death by his father, John Alphus, and mother, Letha Eugene Alexander; his son, Rodney Craig Alexander; six siblings, one being a twin sister. Elmer is survived by his loving wife, Dottie Evelyn Alexander; three sons: Gary Alexander, Danny Alexander, and Kevin Alexander; five step-daughters; 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2008 in Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Simmons officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Seaside Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be J. R. Alexander, Bryce Alexander, Michael Alexander, Matthew Alexander, Brandon Menn and Shane Menn. Honorary pallbearer will be Jaksyn Vaughn. Our friends and family are very appreciative of the loving care we received from the nurses of Vetas Hospice. We greatly appreciate all the comfort, care and love Dottie, his wife, has given over all the years.
