Elsie Dennington Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 21 to Jan. 22, 2008.
DENNINGTON, Elsie Mary April 2, 1929 - January 18, 2008 Mrs. Elsie Dennington, beloved wife and mother, died at WestView Continuing Care at the age of 78 years. Elsie was born in Bonnyville, Alberta to the late Henry and Nellie Clarke. When Henry died shortly after Elsie was born, her mother returned with the family to England. As a young woman Elsie worked as a nurses aide in the local hospital. She met her first husband Victor Arthur (Art) Stanley and together they had three boys. In 1957 the family immigrated to Canada. While living in Edmonton, Elsie and Art were blessed with three more sons. In 1972, Art and Elsie purchased and operated the old Golden Spike Store. In 1974 Art died after a long struggle with cancer. Two years later, Elsie married Nathaniel (Nat) Dennington and they had 24 happy years together. Nat passed away from cancer in 1999. Recently, Elsie bravely fought her own battles with cancer and post-surgical infection but finally succumbed with all of her sons and loved ones at her side. She is survived by her six sons: Anthony (Carol), Andrew (Connie), Rodney (Roxanne), Daniel (Darlene), David and Kelly (Loucinda); 14 grandchildren: Kimberly, Shauna (Frank), Ryan, Chris, Randi (Justin), Jesse, Dawn (Mark), Craig, Erin, Marc, Meghan (Trevor), Jordan, Tyler and Kory; seven great-grandchildren: Madison, Izabella, Dacoda, Asia, Quinn, Ali and Trystyn as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to her parents, Elsie was predeceased by her much loved brothers Bernard Webber and Stanley, Roy and Sidney Clarke. A Memorial Service for Elsie will be held on Wednesday, January 23 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Golden Spike with Reverend Ron Wesley officiating. The family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. H. Duvel and the staff of Continuing Care for their kindess and care for Elsie. If friends desire, Memorial Tributes may be made to the WestView Continuing Care, 4405-Southpark Drive, Stony Plain, AB T7Z 2M7. Parkland Funeral Services, Stony Plain, in care of arrangements. 963-2520. An Honoured Provider of Dignity Memorial.

I was saddened to hear of the loss of your mom and grandmom, she was a lovely lady and I have very fond memories of her, while growing up across the way in Golden Spike. She had a great sense of humor and was a great friend to my parents. Her detoriation of health did not let her down, I will always remember her and her positiveness! To the Family of Elsie:

It was a great pleasure to been a part of her care at Westview. I will miss the good times we had and the funny movies she watched. I too am going to miss the music coming from her room at night. She will be missed.
