Mrs. Elsie Jane Grimes Grogan, 77, of Jacksonville passed away July 27, 2024 in Tyler. She was born November 7, 1946 in Rusk, TX to George Washington (Wash) Grimes and Rosa Ora Brewster Grimes. She graduated from Jacksonville High School.

Elsie worked for the Jacksonville Daily Progress and while working there was able to reunite her mother, Rosa, with her siblings. She also has worked for the Tyler Courier Times, and Beall's Credit offices. She was a Baptist and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Maydelle.

Ms. Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, her son: David Earl Aslin, Jr., brothers: Odis Wayne Grimes, George Bartee Grimes, James Gilbert Grimes, DeWitt Grimes; sister: Evelyn Todd and grandson: Ronald Toles, Jr.

Mrs. Grogan is survived by her children: Paula Willard and husband Michael of Brownsboro, TX, Tammy Toles and husband Ronald, Sr. of Tyler, TX, and Kenneth Lusk and wife Rhonda of Dialville; eight grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; brother: R.V. Grimes and wife Wilma of Corpus Christi, TX; brother-in-law: Milton Todd of Freeport, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Oakland Cemetery with Bro. Josh Wooldridge officiating. Arrangements are being held under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Rusk, TX. Pallbearers will be Wayne Willard, Jerrid Robbins, Jamie Willard, Ryan Freeland, Caden Freeland, Gerald Grimes; honorary pallbearers will be: Mike Ramsey, Chris McCalister, Ken Dodd and Curtis Ballew.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Oakland Cemetery Fund or the building fund for Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Maydelle.
