Elsie Hougardy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 19, 2016.
After a long, drawn-out battle with cancer, Elsie May Hougardy passed away on July 18, 2016 at her home surrounded by family. She leaves behind her daughters, Robin Coffman and Rhonda Jungquist, and her son, Keith Rader.

Elsie was born on March 4th, 1946 in Moscow, ID, to Robert and Martha McLain, who preceded her in death. She grew up in a loving family with one sister, Ella Bishop of Clarkston, WA, and one brother, Henry McLain, who also preceded her in death.

As a young married woman, Elsie lived in Pullman, WA where she and her husband began their family. In the late 70s, she moved her family to Western WA, eventually settling in Auburn, WA, where she finished raising her children and where she resided for 37 years. There, she also met and married the love of her life, her husband, Robert Hougardy.

She thoroughly enjoyed her customer and colleague interactions at the Auburn Walmart. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, she remained a brave and strong woman, continuing to be bright and cheering even while she endeavored to fight her illness.

Elsie is survived by all of her three children, her 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren as well as by her twin sister, Ella Bishop, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elsie put smiles on others faces & was uplifting to her customers like myself even when she was going through something terrible like she was. What a strong wonderful soul.

To Elsie's family, our thoughts and prayers come your way at your tremendous loss of such a wonderful woman. We had the good fortune to meet Elsie and Bob at the Black Diamond Eagles and they quickly became two of our favorite people. The love they shared was so obvious when you saw them together and how the room lit up when they came in. I see them dancing in heaven, rid of all pain and illness, looking at one another with love in their eyes.

Elsie, you were one of the sweetest people I have ever met. The break room at work is going to seem a little sadder now without your smile. I am so grateful to have had the chance to have known you, and will miss you very much.

Dear sweet Elsie, your strength and courage these past few years has been so inspiring, I will always remember you "trudging onward day by day" and I will smile when I see those boots! Your memory will live on in all of us, and you will be greatly missed. May you Rest In Peace now, with your beloved Bob by your side.

Elsie has been an inspiration to many as she coped with illness and grief for many members of her family. Her devotion to Bob, children and those she has helped is well known. Now she has peace in Christ and walking again with Bob in her eternal place. May God grant peace to her family and friends left togrieve her untimely death.
