Elva Marshman McQueen

Mrs. Elva Marshman McQueen, 90, died late Sunday afternoon Feb. 8, 2009, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, in the chapel of Harris-Mountain Funeral Home, 1030 East Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, Pa., 19320. A visitation will be held from 10-1 a.m. at the chapel. Burial will follow at Hepzibah Baptist Cemetery in Coatesville, Pa.Mrs. McQueen was born July 27, 1918, the daughter of the late Ashton L. Marshman and Elizabeth A. Holbrook Marshman in Chester County, Pennsylvania. She was Recorder of Deeds in Chester County Pennsylvania from 1980 until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband James H. McQueen on Dec. 29, 1978. Mr. McQueen was a former sheriff of Chester County Pennsylvania. Mrs. McQueen was a lifelong resident of Caln Township until she moved to Sumter County Retirement Village in January 2003 to be near her daughter.In Pennsylvania she had been active in various political and community activities. Mrs. McQueen was a former president of Caln Township Women’s Republican Club and was on the board of directors of the Women’s Republican Club of Chester County. Mrs. McQueen was an avid supporter of fund drives, such as the Heart Fund and The American Cancer Society. She belonged to the Caln Civic Club and the Caln Garden Club. Mrs. McQueen was a member of Thorndale United Methodist Church and was recognized in 2008, as the oldest living member. She was active in the ladies circle and various other church activities.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon M. Underwood and Larry of Americus; a sister, Alice Leonard of Huntingdon, Pa.; a sister and brother-in-law, Eloise Hopton and Kenneth of Coatesville, Pa.; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce Marshman and Egee of Honey Brook, Pa.; two grandchildren, Michele Underwood of Chicago, Ill., and Kevin Underwood and wife Mary of Birmingham, Ala; two great-grandchildren, Anna Claire and Ryan Underwood and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Marshman and Ashton L.
