In the early 60's at North Scranton Junior High School, we took a class called "Guidance". In would bound Mr. Hordesky, full of enthusiasm and bearing a wide smile! He would encourage us with evangelistic fervor to do well in school, chart our future careers, and to keep morally straight. No bones about it, he was a 'no-nonsense' teacher but had in his heart the welfare of us all. God certainly made one of a kind in Mr. Hordesky.

It was a joy to be acquainted with Emil Hordesky. My husband and Emil both served as RADIOMEN ON USS HADDO SS255 in the South Pacific during WW II. My husband, Harry F. Heflin valued his long friendship with Emil and Alba and we always looked forward to being with them at the annual HADDO REUNIONS. I pray for you, Emil's family, to be comforted by God in your loss and that you may always have JOY in your memories of his outstanding life. Best Regards, Mrs. Harry F. Heflin "Olie"

I would like to express my condolences at the enormity of your loss. Mr. Hordesky was the principal of my high school and a kinder, more tolerant man, I've never known. I cannot recall ever seeing him without a smile on his face. He was a true inspiration. My thoughts are with you as you encounter so great a loss and my prayers are that you will have the strength to do the same. Much peace and love.....Sincerely, Marianne McDonnell-Colarossi (Class of 1973).

To the Hordesky family, Emil was the best person that I have ever been around and it was a pleasure to know him and work with. I will always remember the great times we had at Central as a friend and administrator he was the best. My football coaching days with him as my boss will always be close to my heart.

What a great guy ... everytime I saw him he had a smile on his face. Just an upbeat, friendly, positive guy who seemed like he was enjoying every moment!! I always say the years I spent at Central were more fun than anyone should be allowed to have in school. Central was a great school. And like all great organizations, the attitude permeates from the top down ...

In memory of my Dad, Emil T. - January 16, 1924 - March 13, 2011. He was a very tough man, an athlete, a coach, a radioman on a submarine in WWII seeing duty near Japan (at signing of Japan surrender), a school administrator, could fix anything (before 1979 that didn't have a computer chip in it!), a small farmer, a vintner, a husband for 60 years to Alba who died 9 months earlier and whose loss probably set the stage for his own. He was a father of 6. He was certain of who he was and he stayed true to his ways. He loved the mudpond. He was proud of his roots in Carbondale, PA. I love you Dad. I'll miss you every day.

My condolences to the Hordesky family. I was a student of Mr. Hordesky at N Scranton Jr. HS back in the early 50's. He was a fine person and a good teacher. He was one of the many fine teachers I had in Scranton that encouraged me to become a teacher too. Mr H will be missed.

Dear Sharon and family:
I remember your father well from my days at Central High School in the late 60s. High school memories of former teachers are usually those who were tough and unapproachable. Not so with your Dad. He was very open and helpful and caring. He greeted all students with a smile. I have wonderful memories of him. He was what high school principals should be. Know that Central alumni respected and admired him.
