Emily Rykwalder Obituary

Published by TBO.com on Apr. 28, 2005.
RYKWALDER, Emily Suzanne, 24, and her unborn child died in a tragedy April 4, 2005, after just four months of marriage. Tampa lost a brilliant jewel and heaven welcomed a new angel. She was born July 8, 1980, in Ypsilanti, Mich., and moved to Tampa when she was 6. Emily was laid to rest at the Myrtle Hill Cemetery on April 6. She is survived by her son, Matthew (2), whom she dearly loved; her parents, Thomas and Nancy; younger brothers, Brett, Sean, Stephen and Eric; maternal grandmother, Ruth Achauer of Ohio; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins throughout the country. As a young person, Emily was mostly home schooled. At age 17, she was sponsored by the Rotary Club of New Tampa to spend her senior year of high school in France. When she returned to the States, she furthered her studies at Hillsborough Community College in the honors program. Emily's radiant spirit and kind heart touched all who knew her. Her winning smile lit up a room. She had a passion for music and theater, writing po etry, and reading. Her life was positively affected by her association with Mary Kay Cosmetics as a consultant, and most recently through her work with Primerica Financial Services as a financial analyst. Emily had a strong desire to be of service to others in any way she could. As a member of the Baha'i faith, Emily gently taught others of the Baha'i teachings such as the unity of all mankind, the essential oneness of all religions, and that world peace is not only achievable, but inevitable according to God's divine plan. The Baha'i principles of justice and the equality of women and men were particularly important to her. Emily was a special person and a wonderful example to others. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She will be missed by all of us. Everyone who would like to remember her is invited to a Celebration of Life Service 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd. If anyone should wish to make a do nation in memory of Emily, they can send their tax deductible gift to Character Development of Tampa Bay, 405 S. Dale Mabry Highway, #341, Tampa, FL 33607. The mission of CDTB is to empower children to recognize and strengthen their God-given virtues, a task that mirrors the pattern of Emily's life and the path she chose for her own son.

Dearest Nancy,
In looking for you online I came across Emily’s obituary. I can’t express to you how very saddened and sorry I feel for you. Somehow I remember her name after she was born but then lost touch with you. I know her loss and that of her baby has been several years ago now but I also know there is a terrible hole in your heart. I am so very sorry. If you get this message and are so inclined, please reach out to me. I have lovely memories of our younger years and would love hearing from you. Much love, Carolyn Allen Dyal ([email protected]).

Dear Tom, Nancy and Boys,

You have been such dear friends these past 16 years. I have many fond memories of activities with your family. Our faith in Baha'u'llah sustains us now. We will miss Emily very much. I didn't write the following poem, but dedicate it to your family:

"Prayer for Friends"

Lord, bless our friends today we pray,

Wherever they may be;

And help them as they go their way,

To keep their trust in Thee.

Lord, hear each prayer they raise to Thee,

And dry each falling tear;

And hover o'er them constantly,

For treasured friends are dear.

Surround them with Thy mercy,

Lord, Protect them by Thy power;

And let them feel Thy presence,

Lord, In every lonely hour.

Stand by them when the road is steep,

And no one seems to care;

Thy arm of love around them keep,

And whisper You are there.

And give them strength to bear the cross,

As through this vale they go;

And stand by them in every loss,

That they meet here below.

And when at last the hour shall be,

That life's short journey ends;

O, let them lean the more on Thee,

And comfort these, our friends.

And open heaven's gate, dear Lord,

And let them enter there;

For heaven will be heaven,

Lord, Because our friends are there.

Love, Bob, Cindy and Sara xxx000

Dear Nancy and Tom,

Emily was one of the most kind hearted and loving people I knew. She was a hard worker too, always willing to help. I met her at Macaroni Grill when she was serving tables in 2002. We went on to keep in touch and she introduced me to Primerica, in which I never got a job at because of its location in Brandon. I miss her greatly. I know that she is safe now and everything is in divine order. May love and peace be with the family, you have an angel watching over you.

With Love,

Hello,

I just want to say that I am thankful for having had known Emily. She really had alot of patience and love in her heart and she was never one to judge you. She really made a difference in a lot of peoples' lives and I know that as I (and everyone else) succeed in life, she is there smiling at us and encouraging us to move forward.

Dear Nancy and Tom,

I thought about Miss Gertrude today. I'll bet she said, "Oh, my, Emily, What are you doing here? but welcome." It made me feel better for the first time since I heard of either Miss Gertrude's or Emily's passing. God chooses his angels well.
