Emmett C. Nelson

Emmett "Jack" C. Nelson, 93, of Rohnert Park, Calif., passed away Wednesday at his home.

Born to John and Maude Nelson, Jack was a native of Jones County, Texas and a former resident of Vallejo.

He was an inspector on Mare Island Naval Shipyard and also worked as a public works inspector for the City of Vallejo.

Jack was a member and former Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E. No. 559. He was also a member of PDDGM Myrtle Rebekah Lodge No. 15, PG Independent Order of Odd Fellows (65 year member), Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 23 and The Naval Lodge of Vallejo.

He enjoyed reading and was happiest when surrounded by books and sharing a good story. Jack was always willing to help his friends and loved to talk about his youth and travels. He talked about hitching rides on freight trains to sleeping on hot cots in between odd jobs. He will be greatly missed.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Gladys; daughter, Elizabeth; sister, Helen; and youngest grandson, Steven.

Survivors include his sons, Bill (Marcia) Nelson of Vallejo, John (Carla) Nelson of Vallejo and Rich (April) Nelson of Sonoma; sisters, Mildred Bruce of Oklahoma, Norma Rogers of Arkansas, Jean Chesny of Texas and Nelda Rogers of Texas; grandchildren, Greg (Jenifer) Buehrer of New Jersey, Jayne (Steve) Phillips of Sonoma, Leah (Jordan) Robinson of Temecula and Andy (Cathy) Nelson of Vacaville, Alex Nelson of Rohnert Park, Michael and Katee Perez of Alameda and Amber, Tyler and Ashley Nelson of Cotati; and great-grandchildren, Austin and Ethan Phillips of Sonoma, Audrey Robinson of Temecula and Nicolas Nelson of Vacaville.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo with the Rev. Al Marks officiating. Inurnment will be a private family ceremony in Sunrise Memorial Cemetery, Vallejo.
