Emmett Rosenkrance Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 19, 2024.
Emmett C Rosenkrance passed away peacefully at the ripe young age of 85 on October 15th, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born at the Mackay fish hatchery on November 7, 1938 to Francis and Lola (Bradshaw) Rosenkrance. He grew up on the ranch in the Copper Basin along with his seven amazing siblings. As a youth he went to school in Mackay, where he didn't have to walk uphill in the snow both ways, but he did have to ride his horse to catch the bus. After graduating from Shelley High School in 1957, he married Maxine Rosenkrance (Larsen) , had three children Todd, Angie, Pam and relocated to Arco, ID. Upon leaving Arco, Emmett ventured "Way up North, to Alaska" where he fought fires and out ran bears. He soon returned to Mackay, residing in Chilly for many years. After leaving Chilly, Emmett spent time in Weiser, ID where he met his love Mary McGraw. They married in 1989 and settled in Fruitland where he retired from the Idaho State DOT.

Emmett had a charismatic sunny disposition with a talent for painting. He was a witty teller of tales and fondly reminisced of good times. Part of his last wishes were stated as follows: "Family / friends can gather and say goodbye. Have a drink for me and sing a song or two. Don't be sad. I lived a good life and I love you all a bunch."

In honor of his last wishes we will be having a gathering October 26th, 2024. Luncheon is 1pm-3pm at the American Legion in Mackay. (406 Main Street).

* Graveside service at noon

His spirit will be carried on with his three children Todd (Valiena) Rosenkrance, Angie (Jim) Posch and Pam (Shaun) Clary.

He is survived by his wife Mary, four step children, 18 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters. One brother: Eddie (Jan). Three sisters; Isabel, Linda (Melissa) , Colleen (Mark). Two sister-in-laws, (Delores and Lowayne) and many nieces and nephews.

Emmett was preceded in death by his parents Francis & Lola, Brothers: Howard, Doug, Lester and Joe. Nephews: Jim and Jerry Rosenkrance (Howard) - Terry and Jay Rosenkrance (Joe)

Emmett was the first person that I met when my wife Judy and I moved to Arco in September of 1969. How we met escapes my memory, but I'm so glad we did. We were best friends running around hunting and fishing whenever we had the opportunity.
One day, Emmett was telling me how he was plowing snow and was just following the yellow line out over Tomcat Grade. When he pulled over to survey the equipment, he noticed that there was two inches of compacted snow over the yellow line he had been following. We both got a kick out of that and yeah, it was true for anyone who plowed snow or drove that section of highway during the winter.
