Emory Watson Obituary

Published by The Reidsville Review, Eden Daily News, or Madison Messenger from Feb. 16 to Feb. 18, 2007.
REIDSVILLE - Emory Milner Watson, 76, local business owner, pharmacist and avid Tar Heel fan, died Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17, 11 a.m. at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Cypress Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Cameron, N.C.
Born September 28, 1930 in Jonesboro, N.C., he led a full life with many interests. He was an Army veteran who served two years at Ft. Jackson, SC. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1957 and few things gave him greater pleasure than his beloved Tar Heels beating "Dook'' University in any competition. He brought his family from Greensboro in 1962 to work for Chandler Drug Company in Leaksville for several years before buying and operating Madison Drug Company for 12 years. He then became co-owner and operated Pharmacyland Drug in Eden until his retirement in 2000. In addition to his pharmacy work, he bred, raised, and trained pointers to hunt quail; bred, raised, trained and showed Tennessee Walking Horses for many years; collected, repaired and sold antiques; was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He was known for his larger than life personality and will be greatly missed by all fortunate enough to have known him.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Johnson Watson and their four sons, David Neill Watson and wife, Kay with children, Chelsey and David of Eden; Emory Mitchell Watson and wife, Jane with children, Hillary, Meredith and Corbin of Eden; Kevin Lee Watson and wife, Alice with children, Jason Chase and wife, Lindsey (Woodford, Va.) and Amanda Chase of Alexandria, Va.; and James Grey Watson and wife, Patti with children, Jordan and Hayden of Eden; and sister, Miriam Constance Watson McNeely of Salisbury.
Visitation will be held Friday evening, 6-8 p.m. at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Patti Watson, 229 Fairway Drive, Eden.
The family asks that any memorial contributions be sent to the Pharmacy Foundation of North Carolina, Inc., 194 Finley Golf Course Road, Suite 106, Chapel Hill, N.C. 27517 or online at www.pharmacy.unc.edu and go to "Make a Gift'' on the right side of the web page.
