On Saturday, October 15th, 2022, Eric C Mitchell Sr. passed away at the age of 69 in Mount Kisco, NY. Born on December 22nd, 1952, in Brooklyn, NY, Eric and his family moved to Westchester where he graduated from Byram Hills High School in 1971 and went on to proudly play football at Catholic University, eventually returning back to Armonk, NY where he would reside for over 60 years.
Eric spent his life working and honoring his craft as a carpenter, craftsman, and contractor in Armonk and the surrounding communities. Some of his many accomplishments include building the town gazebo (twice!), installing the Wampus School Playground equipment and renovating the North Castle Public Library. He was also an active member of the Armonk community. He was a volunteer firefighter for over 30 years and coached little league baseball, AYSO soccer and Pop Warner football while his children were young. When not at the firehouse or on the field, Eric could be seen walking through town or at the American Legion on one of his many journeys. For anyone who has lived in or visited the town, it is most likely that you would have seen, heard, or felt a part of him somehow. His larger than life presence can never be replaced and will be forever missed.
Eric loved his five children, and instilled in them lessons of perseverance, grit, loyalty, and pride. He taught them both figuratively and literally to win humbly, lose graciously and fight ferociously. He taught them how to garden, fish, cook and provide for themselves. His stories, while opinionated, were always entertaining and worth listening to. Life will be a lot less animated without him.
Eric was predeceased by his father, Donald, his mother, Dorothy, and his brother, Mark. He is survived by his five children, Eric Jr. (Gina), Edward (Emily), Bradley (Kim), Brendan (Victoria), and Katy, nine energetic grandchildren, Gavin, Charlotte, Elena, Francesca, Cameron, Raffaella, Declan, and Mackenzie, his girlfriend Gwen, his brother Dirk, and many others whose lives he has touched over the years.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 21st, 2022 between 2pm-4pm as well as 6pm-8pm at Cassidy & Flynn Funeral Directors at 288 East Main Street, Mount Kisco, NY. A funeral service will be on Saturday morning at 9am at Cassidy & Flynn followed by a burial at 11am.
