Ernest Barber Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 3, 2025.
Ernest James Barber, known lovingly by many as Trey Blak, age 46, of Andrews, Texas, passed away on July 28, 2025, in Midland, Texas. Born on September 22, 1978, to James Willis and Marilyn Monroe Barber, Ernest was a cherished member of his family and community.

Ernest was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Minnie Wheeler and Lucy Barber, father James W Barber, mother Marilyn M Suggs, sister Norma J Barber, stepfather Orgrette (O.G) Suggs, nephew Michael Reese, and niece Tamekia Moten.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Terrie Barber, of Midland, his loving sister Olunda Reese and her husband Robert of Midland, and devoted brother Jermaine Barber and his wife Tyson of Arlington, Father in law Reymundo Rodriguez of Midland. Ernest was a proud father to six children: Dante Hall, Kimberly Barber, Jaresa Barber, Jacobrion Barber, Mariah Bowers, and A'Javien Barber.

He also had a special place in his heart for his stepdaughters, Ameris Rodriguez and AnaMaree Rodriguez.

Extended family members include Aunt Barbara Harris of Houston, Aunt Dr. Jeanie Randle of Abilene, and Uncle Kenneth Moten and his wife Elvira of Midland. His numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins will remember him fondly.

Ernest's early education took place in the Midland school district, where he discovered his love for sports and developed his artistic talent. His passion for drawing and painting emerged during these formative years, often gifting his mother with his art. As an adult, Ernest was a steadfast Dallas Cowboy fan and had a fondness for the University of Michigan Wolverines. His friends, many and varied, will deeply miss his presence.

Mayberry Funeral Home, located at 406 East Illinois Ave, Midland, Texas, is handling the service arrangements for Ernest. As we mourn his passing, we find comfort in the words of Psalm 46:1, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble," a sentiment that Ernest held close to his heart.

Ernest's life was defined by his love for his family, his passion for art, and his enduring friendships. His memory will continue to live on through the people he touched and the art he created. As we remember Ernest, we celebrate his life, his love, and his indomitable spirit.

My heart is heavy. Ernest wasn´t just a friend - he was a brother in spirit. We shared deep conversations, moments of laughter, and reflections on life, love, and family. We looked up to each other in our own ways, always with respect and a quiet admiration.

His presence brought depth. His words carried meaning. And those conversations... I will miss them deeply.

Rest well, Ernest. You were truly loved and respected.

With heartfelt compassion,
Antuan

This one hits different! I've known the Barber family for years! Our parents were even friends. We are more than friends of the family, we are FAMILY! My heart is so heavy with knowing that Ernest is no longer here to share his laughs, jokes and kind spirit. To all his children, siblings, nieces and nephews, and extended family, I send you peace and comfort during this time. Jermaine and Niecey, I'm just a call away.
I love you all,
Tiphney Jordan (Jefferson)
