GREENSBORO — Mrs. Esther Mae Gravitte Humphries, 91, passed away from natural causes Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Clapps Nursing Home.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 20, 2009, at Westminster Gardens with the Reverend Don Clement officiating.
Esther was born October 5, 1918 in Caswell County, NC, to the late Herman Howard Gravitte and Hallie May Gravitte. Most of her childhood she, lived in Roxboro, NC. She worked for Made Rite Foods for 50 years. Esther was a life long member of Magnolia Street Baptist Church. She has lived at Clapps Nursing Home for the last 4 years.
Mrs. Humphries was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Younger Humphries, Jr. and her brother, Ralph Gravitte. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy H. Newnam of Greensboro; sons, Larry Y. Humphries and his wife Susan of Danville, VA, Kenneth W. Humphries and wife Susan of Walburg, NC; sister, Juanita Newcomb; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Hanes Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel is assisting the family.
