MIFFLINBURG - Esther L. "Jake" Klose, 100, of 265 Walnut St. since 1938, peacefully entered into rest at 9:38 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family and one of her caregivers.
She was born Sept. 18, 1909, in Rock Springs, a daughter of the late William Austin and Mary Katherine (Stamm) Lytle. On Nov. 12, 1931, she was united in marriage to Herbert L. "Brownie" Klose, who preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1966.
Esther graduated from Mifflinburg High School.
Esther and her husband founded H.L. Klose & Sons Inc. in 1939.
She was a faithful member her entire life of St. John's United Church of Christ, Mifflinburg, where she was a member of the Good Fellowship Class and the Women's Guild and served on the church council.
Esther was a member of Women of the Moose, Mifflinburg, and a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 152, Mifflinburg.
She was famous for her homemade pies, which she often donated to the Mifflinburg Hose Company carnival and various church functions. Esther enjoyed sewing and knitting. She knitted a full snowsuit for each of her grandchildren when they were toddlers. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time in the summer with family and friends on her porch.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy L. and Marie Klose, and one daughter, Kathy K. Aikey and her companion, Rick, all of Mifflinburg; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Scott L. and Cindy Klose, Timothy A. "Tex" and Carol Klose and Jeffrey W. and his companion Sheila Walter, all of Mifflinburg, Jeremy and Bonnie Aikey, of Houston, Texas, Christopher and Melody Aikey, of Selinsgrove, Amber Aikey, of Lewisburg, Charles "Chuck" and Deb Klose, of Mifflinburg, Kerry and Joel Johnson, of New Market, Md., and Nicholas and Sharon Klose, of Lewisburg; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Vey Klose, of Peoria, Ill.
She was preceded in death by one son, Charles "Clip" Klose; one infant son; two brothers, Ralph T. and John W. Lytle; and four sisters, Neta N. Muffley, Catherine Ryan, Lois I. Smith and Myrtle Lytle.
There will be no public viewing. Visitors will be received by the family from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 417 Market St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 2 with the Rev. Susan Gabbard officiating.
Burial will be in Mifflinburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to either Evangelical Home Hospice, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837, or St. John's United Church of Christ, Building Fund, 417 Market St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
Funeral arrangements are by the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg.

Hi Kathy, Im very sorry to hear about "moms" Mrs.Klose I heard your voice mess, I read all the true wonderful things about moms. Im very sad but glad she had no pain, she never gave pain to anyone. I still have to send my card to her its in the mail. you all have my prayers. I cry for the joy of having her in my life!!! Love always Brenda Ford, Thank you Kathy for thinking of me.

We are so sorry, but Aunt Jake lived a good life. The family gatherrings in the 50s and 60s are forever burned in my memory as wonderful time of youth
