I was one of his clients at the Torrance County Counseling, at first I was scared of seeing a therapist but when I met Eugene, he knew how to make me feel calm and reassured me that no one wasn't out to get me. He helped me with my troubles with Autism, I been going there for couple of years, I considered him a close friend and mentor. I didn't know how he was doing since he retired but when I heard from my mom, I was in shock.
Eugene, you helped me in so many ways more than anyone has ever done for me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart I hope we will meet again for more stories and laughs, cheers to you sir for making me a better person. God Bless

Gene was a godly friend!

Gene was a great mentor to the younger basketball refs. Thanks for sharing Gene with us. He was a wonderful man and the best basketball ref I ever met. But what made him most special was that he took the time to be a great mentor to the young basketball refs, such as me. It was the late 70's, and I was starting out as a ref, and Gene would speak to the younger/new refs, and invited us to watch his games. I remember one story he told us about a very important state tournament game, and it was late in the game and one of the coaches was hot about a recent call. Gene did not want to have to call a technical and have the game impacted by that, so he pretended his shoe came untied, and he knelt down about 6 feet away from the coach to tie his shoe, and he let the coach vent at him. He stood up, as as he walked away, he said, "I hear you coach". The coach calmed down, no technical needed, the game went on, and trouble averted. This is only one of many examples of the kind of man Gene was. Thanks again, we will miss you and we are all better to have known you.
