GREENSBORO — Eugene Ira Trego passed away on April 13, 2011 at Moses Cone Hospital from complications of Parkinson's disease.
A funeral mass will be held at the St. John the Beloved Catholic Church in Summerville, SC, on Monday, April 18,2011 at 9 a.m., by Monsignor Latham. Burial will follow in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Eugene was born April 23, 1930 in Winner, SD, the son of Ira and Hilda Trego.
Eugene joined the US Navy at the age of 18. He proudly served the United States as a career officer and his duty stations included Japan, Spain, and numerous locations in the US. His active wartime service included the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He was married to Patricia Hayden on July 28, 1962. Together, they shared a military life of transfers and travels.
In addition to his parents, Eugene is predeceased by his wife, Patricia Trego, sister, Bernice Weingardt and brother, Robert Trego.
Surviving are his five children; son, Alan Trego and wife, Deborah of Charleston, SC; daughter, Cheryl Fortin and husband Pete of Jefferson City, TN; son, John Trego and Eugene's daughter-in-law Donna, of Charleston, SC; daughter Katherine Trego and partner Cara Dysert, of Olney, MD; son, David Trego and wife Shawn, of Greensboro; 10 grandchildren; Robert Otting, Tricia Jackson, Todd Trego, Christopher Trego, Brook Roberts, Jonathan Trego, Andrew Trego, Nicholas Trego, Anna Trego and Rachel Trego; six great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received following the mass at the church.
