PEORIA - Eva Mae Monroe Hudson, 94, of Peoria, formerly of Hanna City, died at 2:50 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2012, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born Wednesday, Oct. 31, 1917, in Hanna City to Ira Frank Sr. and Myrtle Lilly Bontz Monroe. She married Charles Henry Hudson on Aug. 15, 1942, in Crocker, Mo. He preceded her in death on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, in Peoria.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Lynn Hudson in 1966; one brother, James F. Monroe in 2002; and one sister, Eunice Monroe Riekena in 2010.
Eva is survived by one son, Kim Charles Hudson of East Peoria; one daughter, Linda Belle Hudson of Peoria; one sister, Alice Thompson of Hanna City; one brother, Ira Frank (Virginia) Monroe Jr.; one granddaughter, Kourtney Christine (and Andrew) Wittmer; and one great-grandson, Charles Daniel Wittmer, all of Blue Mound, Ill.
She attended grade school in Pinkerton Grammar School in Hanna City and graduated from Peoria High School in 1935, where she was elected to Senior National Honor Society. She cherished the memories of the downtown streets and businesses of both places.
Eva was a lifelong resident of Hanna City until Aug. 14, 2004, when she moved to the Christian Buehler Memorial Home in Peoria.
She worked for the Hanna City Switchboard, The Darling Shop in Peoria, Ill., The Triple A Office, later named The Peoria County ASC office for 7 1/2 years. She also worked for Peoria County Farm Bureau, Peoria County Service Co., Deputy Assessing Office for Logan Township, Peoria County for six years and as an election judge for 10 years and at Illinois Heart Institute.
She served on various committees for the Hanna City United Methodist Church: Pastor Parish Committee; communion steward; financial secretary; financial treasurer; and the Ad-Council Committee.
She was a member of the UMW and worked on the Membership Committee. She was the assistant treasurer for the Food Pantry at her church. In her community she was involved as a 4-H leader, helped with blood drives, Red Cross, Cancer Society and Muscular Dystrophy funds. She was a member of Logan Grange 1861 for 17 years, Peoria County Farm Bureau for more than 50 years, The Primers, Lunch With Friends and the Hanna City Civic Women's Organization dinners.
Eva exhibited at the Heart of Illinois Fair for 30 years, receiving many ribbons.
She was a member of the Hanna City United Methodist Church since 1952, where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012. The Rev. Joy Schlesselman and the Rev. Bob DeBolt will officiate. The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at her church. Burial will be in the North Limestone Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Peoria County.

My sincere heartfelt condolence on the lost of a wonderful woman. I didn't know her very well, but cherished the time I did talk with her while she was at Buehler's Nursing Center. May the Lord put his arms around the family and comfort all of you.

I wish to communicate my condolences for the loss of your mother. I have many very fond memories of experiences as children and young adults on Runcle Street in Hanna City. Your mother was a kind and wonderful person. I also loved her pies! I have many wonderful menories of her.

Kim and Linda, I have many wonderful memories of your mother and her beautiful smile. I especially remember her style. I loved her black and white heels she always wore. Linda, I am so sorry. I have such good memories of being at your house in our younger days and going to 4H activities. Our biggest issues of our names getting messed up just don't know why: Hudson/Hodgson... My prayers are with you and the family.
