Evelyn was born to James and Pauline (Larkin)Wyatt and raised in Dallas, Texas. She was the youngest of her siblings Doris Wyatt Simons, older brother James Wyatt (now deceased), and survived by her sister-in-law Mary Ann Wyatt. Evelyn’s husband Chester Hale and brother-in-law Edward Simons are deceased.
Evelyn met her husband, Chester, at UT Arlington who asked as she was walking by if she played bridge. She immediately said “yes” although she had never actually played but, only watched others play the game. They Won! Evelyn & Chester transferred to UT, Austin in ’49-50.
They married Christmas Day 1950 after Chester was called back into active service. Eventually, they landed in Houston, TX, living there for 40 years raising two daughters Bebe and Vicki (aka now as Victoria) and numerous dogs & other animals (their adopted children.)
Evelyn ran the business she and Chester began called Hale’s Half Acre Kennel & Pet Cemetery (and Evelyn also began dog grooming) as Chester worked and traveled in his job. After their daughters graduated from college, Evelyn and Chester completed college graduating from the University of Houston & also, received degrees from San Jacinto College in Safety & Health. They then began their own Safety Consulting business serving & teaching Geophysical and Oil companies in the U.S.
They retired to Canyon Lake. She and Chester were active church members, musicians, substitute teachers, American Red Cross teachers, judges and helpers for science fairs, and more. They also attended many games, programs, recitals, plays, and graduations in which their 5 grandchildren participated. Weddings and baptisms of their grandchildren and great grandchildren were attended, too…in addition to attending performances in Arkansas where their younger daughter, Victoria, talented in music, would have recitals for her students.
Evelyn was a loving, faith-filled, and caring wife, mom, Mawmaw, & great-Mawmaw to Mark & Bebe Wittig, Victoria Pate, Nathan & Leticia Wittig and children Emma and Claire; Christi & Marc Harrison and children Isa, Jimmy, and Rosie; Jacob Wittig; Jonathan & Lisa Wittig and children Caroline Evelyn and Benjamin, and Luke Wittig, and to all whom she met. Evelyn assisted others in so many ways of kindness, prayers and love whether that person was family, a friend or a stranger.
