EVELYN S. (ULTIS)
On August 4, 2006, age 72, of Wilmerding. Evelyn was a retired Civil Draftswoman from the Allegheny County Planning Dept. She was very active in both community & civic activities in the Boro of Wilmerding, always making sure that things got done not just said. She was "a strong voice in the community", a member of the Wilmerding Womans Civic Club, Wilmerding Planning Commission, former Democratic Committee Woman, George Westinghouse Festival Comm., Wilmerding Historical Society, & former Dispatcher for the Wilmerding Police Dept. She was also an avid gardener who could grow anything. Her family called her "the Root Woman". Wife of the late Edward Szmyd; mother of Patricia (Frank) Tylka of Wilmerding, Robert Szmyd of Wilmerding & Sharon (Edward) Wightman of Shaler; daughter of the late Paul & Evelyn Loskey Ultis; sister of the late Paul Ultis II; also survived by five grandchildren. Friends received at the JAMES F. FILIA FUNERAL HOME, 354 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, on Sun. & Mon. 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Service will be held at Holy Angels Lutheran Church, Wilmerding on Tuesday at 10:30 am.

I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW SWEET AND KIND MRS. SZMYD WAS TO ME AND MY FAMILY. I AM SO SORRY ABOUT HER PASSING. I HAVE MANY SPECIAL MEMORIES OF HER.
