Evelyn Watts Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 10, 2024.
Evelyn Jeanne Watts (Beamer), affectionately known as Evie, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2024, in Cape Coral, Florida at the age of 89. Born in Rushville, Indiana, Evelyn lived a vibrant and diverse life, touching many with her warmth and humor.

Evelyn had a rich and varied career, having worked in several states and various capacities including at a cotton gin in Texas, as a waitress in Georgia, and a cashier in North Carolina, finally retiring in her late seventies. Her work ethic and adaptability were as commendable as her ability to make friends wherever she went.

Known for her great sense of humor, Evelyn was a fan of true crime stories, often found watching her favorite programs or discussing the latest mystery she had read. She had a deep love for animals, especially her cherished Chihuahua, Honey. Evelyn's musical tastes were a delightful throwback, with favorites including Elvis Presley, Engelbert Humperdinck, and Tom Jones. She was also a fantastic cook, whose culinary creations were eagerly anticipated at family gatherings.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter Suzanne Barr, son Alfred Milton Watts, sons-in-law Jay Barr and Walter Smith, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly. Her family tree reflects her loving and nurturing nature, leaving behind a legacy of fond memories and strong family bonds. Evelyn was preceded in death by her son Donald Waldie II, daughter Marlene Smith, her parents William Beamer and Kathryn Pittman, foster parents Otis and Ellen Whitton, and her sister Helen Woods.

A Celebration of Evelyn's life is scheduled for Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the family home, where friends and relatives are invited to share stories and honor her memory.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the ASPCA, local animal shelters, or the American Cancer Society, reflecting her love for animals and her compassionate spirit. Evelyn's life was a testament to her resilience, humor, and the deep connections she fostered throughout her years. She will be remembered fondly and missed by all who knew her.

The first time I met Grandma was on a Christmas weekend at my house. She was a hoot and we hit it off from the get go. I will miss her terribly and our fun and crazy times together. She will always be in my heart. Everytime I think about her I smile and even laugh out loud because I will never forget her voice. R.I.P Grandma. I love you.

I was with Mom, holding her hand as she quietly slipped away. I know she is with Jesus Christ, and she's no longer suffering in any way. May God Bless her.
