Fernand Lucien Boisvert, 97, of Manchester, NH, passed away following a brief illness on February 1, 2018, one day shy of his 98th birthday. Born in Manchester, NH on February 2, 1920, he was the son of William Albert Boisvert and Lillian (Cayer) Boisvert. A life-long and proud Manchester resident, Fern served in the U.S. Army from December 1940 until November 1945, where his assignments included that of an artilleryman and a military police officer. After his discharge he was employed by the Manchester Gas Company, where he worked for 38 years as a customer service dispatcher until his retirement in September 1984. He was married to Irene Dorothy Demers in October 1948, and enjoyed 50+ years together until Irene's death in 1999. Throughout his life, Fern loved visiting the lake and the ocean, and most of all, sharing time with his family. His home was host to Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve festivities every year, right up to 2017. He enjoyed serenading his family with old French songs, especially with his singing partner and son-in-law Dennis Duhaime. An avid cribbage player, he was still regularly beating all comers until a few weeks before his passing. He was predeceased by a sister, Violet, and two brothers, Roger and Robert. Surviving members of his family include sisters Georgette Blanchette of Auburn, NH and Pierrette McConnell of Ashtabula, OH; sons Dr. Ronald F. Boisvert and spouse Rita of Montgomery Village, MD and Robert G. Boisvert and spouse Mary Ann of Penacook, NH; and a daughter, Mary Ann Duhaime and spouse Dennis of Manchester. He was a loving "Pepere" to five grandchildren: Steve Boisvert of Penacook, NH, Brian Boisvert of Providence, RI, Alicia McDermott of Manchester, Amanda Duhaime of Manchester, and Dr. Linette McPartland of Germantown, MD; and to one great granddaughter, Mia McDermott of Manchester. The family wishes to acknowledge the care-givers at Home Instead Senior Care, particularly Deborah and Nancy, who continually brought a smile to Fern's face, and whose dedicated service allowed him to remain in the home he loved until his final days. SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2018, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street, in Manchester. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 5, 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Committal prayers with military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, in Manchester. The Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium is assisting the family with arrangements. To view an online memorial, leave a message of condolence, or for more information please go to www.phaneuf.net
