Fidel was a great drummer and was an inspiration to all musicians who knew him and who played with him with bands like The Wanderers,The Personalities,
George J & the Rocking Ravens, Our Generation, The Innkeeper Band and many others including being a studio musician for Falcon Records & Bego Records. He also played overseas while in VIETNAM 1966-1968. He will be missed.

I REMEMBER SEEING FIDEL PLAY DRUMS. HE WAS TOPPS, THE BEST. MY BROTHER JOE MATA, SR. TAUGHT ME HOW TO PLAY DRUMS AS A LITTLE KID. I WOULD COVER FOR JOE LIKE IN MAY 1964 WHEN HE GRADUATED FROM MCHI. I PLAYED ALMOST A FULL PARTY UNTIL JOE SHOWED UP. FIDEL KNEW MY BROTHER JOE AND CONSEQUENTLY GOT TO KNOW ME. FIDEL SPENT TIME WITH ME ONE DAY SHOWING ME TIPS LIKE DRUM ROLLS, ETC.. HE WAS REALLY GOOD, THE BEST IN MY OPINION. MY MOST SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO HIS IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND THEIR FAMILY. MY BROTHER DANNY MATA, THE LEADER OF THE THEN PATHFINDERS BAND, WILL BE ONE OF THE FIRST TO GREET HIM IN HEAVEN. RIP FIDEL. JC MATA, PHYSICAL THERAPIST, MCALLEN TEXAS..

Fidel believed in God and in His Son Jesus. He is with them now.
Fidel was my good friend and we played together with many bands in the 60s. Among these bands was: Eddie and The Emeralds, Noe Pro, Paul and Paula, Billy Jo Royal, Freddy Fender, the Personalities, and many others. Probably the best drummer in the Rio Grande Valley. I will miss him dearly.
