Florence LEASK Obituary

LEASK, Florence Muriel
June 20, 1927 – Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan
April 14, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
Florence Muriel Leask (nee Coakes) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the age of 90 years. Daughter to Florence and Herbert, she was born near Golden Prairie, SK on June 20, 1927. She was one of 11 brothers and sisters in the Coakes family. Florence worked hard growing up on the farm in Saskatchewan and later moved to Turner Valley where she raised her family. She then moved to Calgary with her husband John where she was involved with the Royal Canadian Legion, the United Church and spent much of her time visiting with friends and family. Florence had an incredibly sharp mind, especially when it came to dates and figures. She loved spoiling her grandkids and always had candy on hand. At her 90th birthday party, the room was full of love for her from friends and family from across the prairies, and she took special joy in this gathering. Though she was troubled with many health problems later in her life, she displayed a strength that few could match until the end. The family is especially grateful to the staff at South Calgary Health Campus who treated her with much dignity and offered incredible support and kindness. Florence is survived by her remaining children Helen (Steve), and Jim (Laurie); as well as her grandchildren Tammy, Angie, Jennifer, Amanda, Andrea and Grady; and the many great and great-great grandchildren she loved to spend time with. She is also survived by her sister Rosie, who she had a long and loving friendship with over the years. She was predeceased by her husband John (1999) and daughter Lynn (2008). Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) today at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. In living memory of Florence Leask, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Wishing you many happy memories. Florence was a very special lady.

To the Leask family: I was very sad to hear of Florences passing. She was a dear and lovely lady, who I became very very fond of over the last five years. Our weekly visits and occasional lunches and dinners were very special to both myself and my husband. I will miss our weekly cribbage games, some of which she let me win, and our chats in person and on the phone. I will miss her messages of "I love you both", and "God Bless" whenever we said goodbye. So, goodbye, dear Florence, and God Bless, I Love you and I will miss you! Bev and Neal Bynkoski

My thoughts and prayers go to Florence and all the family
She will forever hold a special in my heart
I loved seeing her every week to do her hair and she loved talking about her family and how lucky she was to have them
Florence is at peace and I will miss her I was fortunate to see her in the hospital for a brief visit
I gave her a hug and told her how much she meant to me while the doctor and I think her granddaughter stepped out
All the best to you all
Brenda

Our thoughts are with you. We share many fond memories of spending time with Florence and in particular, the days we were able to visit while she stayed with us in BC on the occasion of Jennifer's wedding. Florence was indeed sharp, and always impressed us with her memory about our family's comings and goings and her genuine interest in our stories. She will be missed.
