Floyd Halvorsen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 17, 2025.
It is with sadness that we share the loss of Floyd E. Halvorsen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach, and teacher who passed on May 31, 2025.

Son of William and Vivian Halvorsen, Floyd was born in Williston, ND and raised in Butte, MT, one of five siblings.

A graduate of Carroll College, Floyd began his teaching and coaching career at Central Catholic HS in Portland, OR. Floyd went on to teach and coach in Mt. Angel and Grants Pass before finding his home in Eugene at Churchill HS in 1972 as head football coach and math teacher. During his 28 years at Churchill, Floyd helped and motivated thousands of students.

During his football tenure, the Lancers won 176 games, 10 league titles and one state championship. The on-campus football field is named in his honor.

Floyd loved being outdoors and was active throughout his life. He enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, and camping with family and friends.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 63 years Patricia, children Marie (Stuart), Tim, and Robyn (Jim), grandchildren Isabella (Prem), Jacob, Nick, Cali, Carter and Kailen, and great-grandchild Odin. He was predeceased by his son Floyd William (Dana).

A funeral mass and reception will be held on July 9, 2025, at 12:15 p.m. pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1062 Charnelton, St, Eugene, OR. All who knew Floyd are welcome to attend. Though he has left this world, Floyd's light will continue to shine through the many lives he touched.

Remembrances may be made in the form of contributions to the Pete Moore Hospice House.
