Forrest Andrews Holstrom, 79, of Geneseo, Ill., died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. Funeral Services are 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Rev. Ton Heyd will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, where Military Honors will be accorded by Geneseo VFW Post 5083. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m., at Vandemore Funeral Home LTD, Geneseo. Masonic Services will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. by Stewart Lodge No. 92 AF&AM. Memorials may be left to the Forrest Holstrom Memorial Fund.
Forrest was born Nov. 5, 1924, in rural Geneseo, the son of Carl Edward and Ruth (Andrews) Holstrom. He was a 1942 graduate of Geneseo High School. Forrest was a Navy Veteran of World War II serving as an Electrician Mate serving on the USS Blessm, seeing action in the Pacific and Atlanta Theaters where he received numerous medals. He married Lylah M. Larson Nov. 14, 1954, in Geneseo at the First Lutheran Church. Forrest was a city mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Geneseo for 17 years then later was appointed Postmaster of the Geneseo Post Office for 16 years until he retired in 1986. He later worked at Durick's Radio Shack, Geneseo for several years. He was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Stewart Masonic Lodge 92 AF&AM and Order of the Eastern Star No. 275, Geneseo. Forrest was past president of Geneseo Kiwanis Club, and the Geneseo PTA. He served on the Geneseo City Council as 2nd Ward Alderman and various City Committees. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins and traveling with Lylah.
Survivors include his wife, Lylah; son and spouse, Edward and Marsha Holstrom, Bettendorf; daughter and spouse, Laura and Kelly VanLaningham, East Peoria, Ill.; three grandchildren, Brandon and Elliott Holstrom and Noah VanLaningham; two step-grandchildren, Shea and Drew VanLaningHam; one sister and spouse, Betty Jean and Chuck Knox, Rock Island; and one brother-in-law, Richard Mordhorst, Moline.
He was preceded in death by a sister Caroline Mordhorst.
