Frances "Fran" Rojewski, 83, of Monticello, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at IU Health Arnett Hospital.
She was born on March 6, 1939 in Chicago to the late Walter and Victoria (Lis) Czerwinski. On April 20, 1963 she married Norbert Rojewski at St. Michael Church in Chicago, and were married for 55 years until the passing of Norbert in 2019.
She was a 1956 graduate of Saint Michael High School in Chicago and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Chicago State University in 1961. She taught science to fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students and was a seventh grade homeroom teacher at Sacred Heart School, St. Felicitas School, and St. Jerome School, all in the city of Chicago. She and Norbert retired to Monticello in 2007.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Croatian Church in Chicago and Our Lady of the Lakes Church in Monticello. At Sacred Heart Church, Fran was a choir member, Eucharistic minister, lector, and an organizer for the annual summer parish festival. At our Lady of the Lakes Church, Fran was a counter for Sunday collections, choir member, lector, Eucharistic minister, religious education volunteer, nursing home bingo volunteer, and daily Mass attendee. Fran enjoyed devoting extra time to the church and frequently dressed the alter in preparation for Mass and laundered the alter cloths and purificators.
Fran was a member of Literacy Volunteers of White County, a member of Silver Sneakers Club at Brandywine, a volunteer with teaching English to native Spanish speakers, and enjoyed giving back to her community in many other ways.
Fran was an avid collector of angel figurines and wall crosses. She enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears and delighted in fishing with Norb from their pontoon boat.
Fran was a woman of great faith in God, who fell ill in late summer of 2022. The family is grateful to the doctors and nurses of IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette and Dr. Charles Tribbett in Monticello.
She is survived by son, David (Dayna) Rojewski of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Carol (Luke) Fairborn of Charlottesville, VA; sister Charlotte Szromba; grandchildren, Tony (Joanna), Brooke, Cameron Rojewski and Bailey (Calvin) Fisher, Christopher Roys, Prudence and Gordon Fairborn; and many nieces and nephews. Fran was also preceded in death by a son, Dr. Michael Roys.
Services will be conducted in Monticello.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm EDT until 7:00 pm EDT on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 pm EDT. The funeral home is located at 202 S. Illinois St., Monticello.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am EST on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Fr. Chris Miller celebrating.
Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL.
In lieu of gifts of flowers, the family wishes to honor Fran’s preference for gifts of Catholic Mass Perpetual Enrollments with the Franciscan Mission Associates, PO Box 598, Mount Vernon, NY 10551 or franciscanmissionassoc.org. Envelopes will also be provided at the visitation.

Today, I’m preparing to judge science presentations at SIU in Carbondale. On April 28, 2023, I’m reflecting on how Fran Rojewski, science colleague at St. Felicitas School, back in 1978, asked me to judge for local science fairs as well as IJAS City and State! Here, I am judging for all of these 45 years.
Fran was great with the students and has a wonderful family. I recall visiting at her home near Sacred Heart. May Jesus, Divine Mercy, bring her soul into eternal life!!

Mrs. Rojewski was an amazing soul. I was fortunate to be one of her SJS students. I think of her often and I'm saddened to know I was not able to find tell her to tell her myself before she passed. She fostered my love for science and God. I remember her teaching us beautiful church hymns and lively science lessons, most famously the demonstrations of molecules in a solid, liquid and gas. Rest in Peace Mrs. Rojewski.

We met Fran through church. Our fondest memories are singing with her in the choir. We loved the butter lambs she would always send us every Easter. We will definitely miss her.

Fran, You were truly a best friend. You were always there for me and Ed. I know in my heart that you are with Norb and that you are truly happy now. But that does not ease the sorrowful place in my heart. I will miss you.

I had the great pleasure of having Mrs. Rojewski as a teacher at St. Jerome. She was always so devoted to her students & held so much wisdom that she shared and passed on through each and everyone of her students. We all love going in her room and making sure to touch every single specimen on her shelf, while asking so many questions about them all. So many great memories happened in her classroom and she will be cherished by everyone she encountered. You will be missed Mrs. Rojewski & may you rest in peace.
All my Love,

I had the pleasure of having Mrs. Rojewski as my teacher at St Jerome School in Chicago from 2002-2006. She was my favorite teacher at St Jerome and sparked my love of science, which is one of the reasons I followed a career in health care. I am so saddened to hear of her passing. I know she lived a wonderful life with her family and as a woman of faith. She will be missed be so many. I extend my sincerest condolences to her family. She will be in my prayers.

I’m very sorry for the family’s loss. I met Fran and her husband a few years ago through a mutual friend. They both were always so nice to me whenever our paths crossed. May memories provide comfort during these difficult days.
