FRANCIS A. LOMBARDO

LOMBARDO, Dr. Francis A. DN Of Winchester, MA, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2015. Born in Providence, RI, the son of the late Benjamin and Jeanette Lombardo on April 26, 1929. A graduate of Brown University Class of 1949 and Tufts College Medical School, Class of 1953. Following an internship at the Rhode Island Hospital, Dr. Lombardo served two years in the US Navy in the medical department at Quonset Point, RI. He subsequently continued his training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Providence Lying in in Hospital, Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London, CT, and St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT, and was a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He practiced OBGYN in the Burlington, Winchester, and Woburn, MA area for 37 years until his retirement. He was a pioneer in the development of improved pre-natal care and birthing classes and delivered over 8,000 babies. An active member of St. Eulalia's Church, Winchester, MA, he served as lector, Eucharistic minister, a visitor to the homebound and was a member of the Parish Council. He was also a member of the St. Mary/St. Eulalia Collaboration Committee and served on the Parish Council at St. Mary's as well. In 2014 he was honored to receive the Bishop Cheverus Award for his volunteer efforts. An avid bridge player and Life Master he was for many years President of the Winchester Duplicate Bridge Club, a board member of the Eastern Massachusetts Bridge Association, and in 2008, co-chaired the eleven day Fall North America Bridge Championship in Boston. Predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Helene Drolet of North Cambridge, MA, he is survived by a brother, Col. Raymond Lombardo of Highland, CA, four children, Thomas of San Diego, CA, James of Winchester, MA, Judith of Wakefield, MA and Nancy Meagher of Amherst, MA, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Eulalias's Church on Tuesday June 23rd at 11am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main St. (Rte. 38) WINCHESTER on Monday from 4-8pm. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
