Frank Funaro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 19, 2018.
Frank M. Funaro Sr., 81, of Wallingford, husband of Susan (Lagattuta) Funaro, passed away December 15, 2018 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

He was born in New Haven on May 13, 1937, son of the late Frank and Margaret (Spinelli) Funaro. A 1955 graduate of East Haven High School, Frank joined the U.S. Navy in 1957. He was a Maintenance Engineer aboard the destroyer, U.S.S. Herbert J. Thomas, and traveled to the Philippines, Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, and Japan. Upon his return, he worked as an apprentice at Pratt and Whitney followed by working as a Metal Fabricator and Plant Supervisor at the Alfred B. King Company where he worked for 25 years until their closure, and as a Production Supervisor at FPI. In 2004 Frank decided to change careers and was hired by the Home Depot in Wallingford where he was still employed at the time of his death, working in the paint and plumbing departments. He so much enjoyed his customers and would tell us all great stories about some of the people he met. Frank was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Meriden Rod and Gun Club.

Frank will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to all who had the good fortune of knowing him.

In addition to his wife, Susan, he is survived by his sons, Frank Funaro Jr. and his wife Diane of East Haven, Michael Funaro and his wife, Karen, of East Haven, and Brian Funaro and his wife, Melissa, of Branford; his step-sons, David Meyer of Wallingford, Jeffrey Meyer and his wife, Jillian, of Fargo, ND, and Scott Meyer and his wife, Teresa, of New Haven; his brother, Raymond Funaro and his wife, Shirley, of Northford; his sister, Phyllis Stanford and her husband, Leroy, of Killingworth; his grandchildren, Jessica, Frank III, Matthew, and Haylee Funaro and Christopher, Madison, Alex, and Dylan Meyer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 4 pm until 7 pm. His funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday at Yalesville United Methodist Church in Yalesville. Followed by the rendering of military funeral honors. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's memory can be made to Master's Manna, 428 So. Cherry St, Wallingford, CT, 06492 or Meriden Humane Society, 311 Murdock Ave, Meriden, CT 064540.
