Frank Graziano Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 21 to Feb. 23, 2014.
Frank Graziano

Sarasota, FL

Frank Graziano, age 77, left this world January 22, 2014 and checked into the big casino in the sky. Born in 1936, Frank spent his childhood on Des Moines' south side where he was surrounded by the livelihood of the Italian community. Upon graduating from Lincoln High School Frank enlisted in the army where he dutifully served his country for 20 years. During his military experience, Frank served in the Vietnam War, and also survived the 1964 Great Alaskan Earthquake while stationed in Anchorage. His last assignment was completed in Chicago, Illinois. He was a recruiter for the army until his retirement in the 70's.

Frank returned to Des Moines to join his family's business, Graziano Brothers, Inc. In 1984 the torch was handed down to the third generation when Frank became president of the company. He transformed the business into a competitive distributor of Italian specialties until his retirement in 2000. Frank spent many years in the company of his buddies at the Isaac Walton League. It was there that he met his longtime and closest friend and fellow turkey hunter, Randy Jones.

Frank spent most of his retirement in Sarasota, FL. He was a member of several organizations including Sahib Shiner, 100 Club, VFW 3233 and was a 32 degree Mason.

Frank was preceded in death by his father & friend, Maurice (Mose) Graziano, and grandparents Frank and Immaculata Graziano. He leaves behind a number of friends and family including his Aunt Anna Costanzo, sister Maureen Graziano, cousin Frances Graziano, dearest friends Randy Jones, John Forbes, and step daughter Angie Cox. A special thank you goes to his friend Terry Barron who took him under her wings and cared for him in his final days.

A celebration of Frank's life will be held Sunday, February 23rd, from 2-4 p.m. at the American Legion, 1511 South Union St., Des Moines, IA. In honor of Frank's love for dogs and years in the service, please direct memorials to Paws & Effect, P.O. Box 41442, Des Moines, IA, 50311. This organization is devoted to training and placing service dogs with disabled veterans.

What a wonderful man he will be so missed. Had some wonderful times at his lake home in Montezuma and on our cruise several years back. We are in South Texas for the winter and unable to attend his celebration of life. We send our sympathy and prayers to the family and friends.

Our heartfelt condolences, Francis, Maureen and the entire Graziano family on the passing of our beloved Frank. He always treated me like family. Graziano's was my weekly Saturday morning stop, I always had the same order and he never forgot. I will miss my dear friend and his big bright smile. Godspeed...Rochelle Calderon-Baker and Family

I miss you so much. There is not a day that goes by that I think I have to call Frank and tell him about this....or that! I miss hearing the dogs barking as soon as you get on the phone...I miss the support and love you gave Brianna and I! You are missed so dearly, however I am so glad god took you quick so you did not have to suffer! I love you and miss you! Rest in Peace.

Love Brianna and Angie
