Frank L. Miller, 83, of Geneseo, Ill., formerly of Cambridge, Ill., died on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, at Cambridge United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Vidakovich will officiate. Inurnment will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10, in Prairie Cemetery, Fennimore, Wis., with the Rev. Dennis Govier officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the Cambridge Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 212 E. Court St., where a Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Cambridge United Methodist Church.
Frank was born April 4, 1921, on the family farm near Fennimore. He graduated valedictorian of his class at Fennimore High School in 1939. He attended the University of Wisconsin before serving his country in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He returned to the University of Wisconsin and graduated with honors in 1947. While there in 1947, he was a member of the World Champion Livestock Judging Team. He married Virginia M. Monroe on June 28, 1945, in Mt. Hope, Wis. She survives. Frank spent his career in the fields he had trained in production agriculture and livestock procurement in Southwestern Wisconsin, Eastern Iowa, and Western Illinois working on the family farm, for Oscar Mayer Company and in his own livestock procurement operations.
His memberships included Cambridge United Methodist Church, Cambridge Masonic Lodge No. 49 A.F. & A.M., Wisconsin Agricultural and Life Science Alumni Association, Wisconsin Alumni Association and the Sons of Fennimore.
He loved to travel and to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Monroe and Cheryl Miller, Middleton, Wis., and Lyman and Mary Miller, Eldridge, Iowa; two daughters and sons-in-law, Merry and Wray Welsch, Winfield, Iowa, and Virginia and Merlin Hamre, Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy (Mrs. Donald) Green, Kaukauna, Wis.
