Frank Veve Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 26, 2003.
Frank Joseph Veve, M.D., entered into eternal rest on March 25, 2003 after a long illness. He was born on November 16, 1918, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. He was preceded in death by parents, Dr. Juan and Reparada Veve and siblings, Dr. Juan Veve and Irene Bermudez. He graduated from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. (1938) and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA (1942). After completing his internship, he joined the U.S. Army and served his country in WWII as a battalion surgeon in Trinidad, Panama and Hawaii. After discharge, he returned to Fajardo, where he raised a family and practiced for more than 30 years an almost forgotten style of medicineone of house calls, compassion and mutual trust between doctor and patient. In 1976, he moved to San Antonio, where he worked at the State Chest Hospital for 10 years before retiring in 1986. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Juanita (Jerry) and his three sons and their wives, Joe and Ileana (San Juan, PR), Mike and Cary Veve (Fairfax, VA), Dr. Ted and Laurie Veve (San Antonio). He leaves behind grandchildren who treasured him, Michael and Delia Veve of New York, NY, Dr. Kevin and Sarah Johnson of Newport News, VA, Lt. Douglas and Jenny Steele of Oak Harbor, WA, Dr. Kathleen Settle of Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Vanessa Veve of San Juan, PR, Marielle Veve of New Orleans, LA, Michelle and Daniel Veve of San Antonio; great-grandchildren, Emma and Sophia Johnson and Baby Steele. Today, we celebrate the life and honor of the man who was the storyteller, historian and patriarch of our family. We will keep him alive in our hearts forever as we pass on to another generation the tales we learned at his knee. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 20523 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX 78258. Visitation will be Thursday, March 27, 2003 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home. Mass of Resurrection will be Friday, March 28, 2003 at 9:30 A.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
