Franklin Louis Davis Jr.

DAVIS, FRANKLIN LOUIS, JR. died November 28th, 2012 after complications following heart surgery. He was born in Opelika, Alabama on September 10, 1934. Most of his childhood was spent in Alabama in the shadow of Auburn University where his father was a professor and his mother was a homemaker. Frank earned multiple degrees in engineering from Auburn and UCLA. Frank's love of computers and technology was only rivaled by the love for his wife of 54 years Annette Willcoxon Davis of Tuskegee, Alabama. They married and set off on a lifetime of adventures. Frank began his life's work as an Engineer with North American Aviation in Southern California. Frank is best known for his leading-edge work at Texas Instruments where he served as Chief Engineer and Vice President of the Defense Systems and Electronics Group. Some of his most noteworthy accomplishments were leading teams in the development and deployment of electrical systems integrated into the early nuclear Navy, the forward looking infrared radar, the first generation guidance system on the Patriot Missile and the "Bunker Buster" of Operation Desert Shield-Desert Storm. After 25 years at TI, Frank worked for 10 years as Senior Technical Advisor at Parametric Technology. After retirement he enjoyed playing pool and teaching computer classes at the Richardson Senior Center, and traveling. Together, Frank and Annette experienced the world one port at a time. Their cruising adventures took them to every continent around the globe where they amassed a treasure of priceless memories. Frank and Annette raised their daughter Lara Lee Hogg who is married to Michael S. Hogg. He took great pride in being 'Granddaddy' to Alexandra (21), Erin (16) and Michael (9). Franks funeral arrangements are being made by Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 2nd from 1-3pm at Restland Funeral Home. Burial will be Monday, December 3rd at Restland Cemetery at 10am. At 11am a service of celebration of will be held at Spring Valley United Methodist Church, 7700 Spring Valley Road, Dallas. A lunch reception will immediately follow the service.
