Fred Bain Obituary

Bristol - Mass of Christian Burial for Fred E. Bain of Bristol will be Friday, Oct. 6, at Christ the King Catholic Church at Webster, S.D., at 10 a.m. There will be visitation at the church one hour before service. Burial will be 3 p.m. Friday at Leola. A wake service in Ipswich will be at 7 p.m. Thursday night at Holy Cross Catholic Church. He died Oct. 2 at Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. Fred was born Sept. 17, 1924, at Frederick, Brown County, S.D., to Fred C. and Louise Bain. At the age of 4 he moved to McPherson County. His dad died in 1930. In 1929 his family moved into Leola, S.D., where Fred went to school and graduated in 1943. He joined the Navy in 1943 and was in Taeko Bay at the signing of the treaty. He married Evelyn Lapka in 1950 and lived on a farm north of Leola where two boys were born. In 1958 Evelyn died of polio. He then left the farm and bought a restaurant at Webster and lived there until 1991 when he retired. In 1961 he married Barbara Brown Pfeiffer to whom four children were born. Barbara passed away Sept. 29, 1998. He belonged to V.F.W. at Webster and worked at Needs Anonymous at Webster. He is survived by six sons and two daughters, Dick (Dee) Pfeiffer of Tucson, Ariz., Katherine Pfeiffer of Tucson, Ariz., Brian Bain of Wyoming, Kent Bain of Grand Island, Neb., Brenda (Gregg) Harvey of Billings, Mont., Gordon (Jody) Bain of Sioux Falls, Gary (Darlene) Bain of Sutherland, Va., Douglas Bain of Bristol; seven grandchildren, Carrie Bain, Ethan Harvey, Cody Harvey, April Bain, Christopher Bain, Ashley Bain, Mathew Bain; three sisters, Vera Nelson of Oakes, N.D., Ada Bundschuh of Good Year, Ariz., Iva McCullough of Aberdeen; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and very special friend, Alice. He was preceded in death by two wives, four sisters, one brother and his parents. He loved to play cards and loved to hunt and fish. He was very thoughtful and helped many, many people who were in need.

Our deepest sympathy in the loss of Fred. He will be missed by so many people! We had the privilege of knowing him and his family members. Uncle Fred and my Dad( Elmer Habeck) stopped at our place to pickup one of our girls They had shot a pheasant and neither one of them could gat oput of the car and walk out in the field and pick it up. OH by the way did I say it was n't pheasant season yet! They both loved to hunt That was probably 30 years ago, or more.
