BRISTOL, Tenn. – Fred Virgil Cartwright, 80, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2007, surrounded by his family at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Johnson City on Oct. 8, 1927, the son of the late Marie and Howard Cartwright. Mr. Cartwright was a graduate of ETSU with a degree in engineering and served in the U.S. Navy. He retired after 32 years from Raytheon in Piney Flats, Tenn., as a plant manager. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Most recently, Mr. Cartwright entertained his family and friends at open reception to honor his 80th birthday and his grandson, Chris's, 28th birthday.
Mr. Cartwright was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Margaret Geiger, and son, David Carmack.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Dollie Sopigoti Cartwright of Bristol Tennessee; sons, John Frederick Cartwright Sr. and wife Melanie and Ronald James Carmack and wife Dorothy, all of Bristol Tennessee; grandchildren, John Frederick Cartwright Jr. and wife Anita of Bristol Tennessee, Christopher Warren Cartwright of Bristol Tennessee, Jessica Cartwright Tankersley and husband Brian of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Tausha Marie Carmack of Nashville, Tenn; great-grandchildren, Caden Tyde and John Forrest; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joe-d DowlingSoka officiating. Entombment will follow at Glenwood Mausoleum, with military rites by Tennessee Army National Guard Honors.
Pallbearers will be John F. Cartwright Jr., Christopher W. Cartwright, Brian Tankersely, William C. Musick, Calvin Jones, Mickey Raines and Martin Geiger III. Honorary pallbearers will be John Thomas Carroll III, Pete Mitrushi, Joe Crockett, Charlie Smith, Don Adams, Bill Grindstaff, Jim Carty, Floyd Martz and Raytheon employees.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Akard Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Medothist Church, 322 Vance Drive, Bristol, TN 37620; or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family at [email protected].
