Dr. Fred R. "Fritz" Hansen Jr.

Dr. Fred (Fritz) R. Hansen, Jr., 78, of Morristown passed away Aug. 28, 2015 in Morristown. Fritz was born in Council Bluffs, IA Jan. 12, 1937. Fritz began community service and his love for the outdoors at an early age by earning the rank of Eagle Scout and had a lifelong passion for camping, hunting and fishing. A graduate of Eastern High School in Louisville, Ky. in 1955, he continued his education at Ole Miss prior to graduating from UT School of Dentistry in Memphis. Following dental school, he served as a Captain in the U S Army for two years and practiced dentistry for thirty years in Union City. He was active in the community as a member of First United Methodist Church, Union City Jaycees, Union City Rotary Club, and served two terms on the Union City Council.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Fred Hansen; sister, Betty Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jodie Hansen; three daughters and their spouses, Lisa and Rob Ray of Bean Station, Laura Hansen and Jim Stubbs of Brooklyn, N.Y., Poppy and Cliff Beach of Knoxville; son, Frederick Hansen of Morristown; eleven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

His family would like to thank Dr. Rajeev Gupta and his staff; all the caretakers at The Heritage Center and Dr. Richard Greene and the special nurses at Smoky Mountain Hospice. The family would also like to express gratitude to the members of Hillcrest Baptist for their love, support and numerous visits over the last few years.

There will be a private graveside ceremony at the Rays' family cemetery in Grainger County. A memorial service is being planned for family and friends in Union City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to his church, Hillcrest Baptist Church, 410 South Liberty Hill Road, Morristown, TN 37813.
