Frederick Leopold Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 8, 2025.
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Frederick "Fred" Nicholas Leopold, age 74, on November 6, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, after medical complications. A devoted father, Opa, friend, and dedicated professional, Fred left a lasting impact on many.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 27, 1950, to Frederick Leopold III and Sara Leopold, Fred grew up in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan and later moved to Marquette, Michigan. He built a career in emergency medical services and cath lab technology. He served with Detroit Fire EMS, led Marquette General Hospital EMS, worked in the MGH Cath Lab, and later contributed to the San Antonio Baptist Medical System. Through his work, he touched countless lives and made a lasting mark in healthcare.

In retirement, Fred found joy in attending his grandsons' sporting events and moderating Facebook groups where he shared his love of music, food, and political discourse. He connected with many online, offering friendship, humor, and nightly posts of his pets and home-cooked meals.

He is survived by his children: Eric (Jessica) and their son Cyrus; Emily (Daniel) and their sons Jack and Luke; and Mary (Rijo), who are expecting a child; cousin Vera (David); uncle Ron; cousin Gretta and countless friends, including his dear friend Tracy. He is also survived by his beloved cats, Pinot and Grigio, who brought him joy and companionship. He was predeceased by his parents and his cherished donkey, Brahma.

A celebration of life will be held on July 1, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Stucko's Pub in Marquette, Michigan.

I met Fred in 1978 when we began working together at EMS in Marquette. It didn't take long for me to realize how knowledgeable he was as a paramedic, and how well he treated his patients in the field. He excelled in his profession, and was always more than willing to share that knowledge when I'd ask him questions. He also had a sense of humor and wit that was second to none. We shared many great times and laughs together over the years, and he will certainly not be forgotten. Be at peace my friend.
