Frederick Sia Lim

Lim, Frederick Sia 7/4/2022 New Rochelle Frederick S. Lim passed quietly in his sleep the morning of July 4, 2022 after a long battle with dementia. He grew up in Manila, Philippines the son of Chinese immigrant parents and the youngest of 12 children. Fred attended undergraduate school at Bridgewater College in Virginia, then returned to attend medical school at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center College of Medicine in the Philippines. In 1961, he immigrated to the United States with his wife and infant son. He completed his medical internship at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, New York and his residency at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan. He settled his family in Flint and devoted his entire career at the Mott Children's Health Center caring for underprivileged families and served as Medical Director. Dr. Lim co-founded Hurley Afterhours Pediatric Center (later to become Hurley Children's Hospital), specialized in pediatric Cystic Fibrosis for Genesee County, served as a pediatrician for the Michigan School for the Deaf and also worked as an ER doctor at Hurley Medical Center. Even after retiring from Mott, he continued working as a professor of pediatric medicine at McLaren Flint Hospital until retiring for good at the age of 70. Fred was a quiet man that always strived to improve both his professional skills and personal skills related to his hobbies. He loved photography, music, wood working, gardening, bird watching, and radio controlled airplanes. He also loved a good gin and tonic and played a mean game of pool which he picked up as a boy in Manila. Fred worked on projects from building televisions, stereos, and furniture to constructing a kit car roadster. He was an avid traveler, taking his family on extended road trips across the United States to the most scenic spots he meticulously researched. In retirement, he and his wife expanded their travels around the globe. He was devoted to his family and first retired to Ann Arbor where he spent time with his two oldest grandchildren. In his later years he and his wife relocated to New York to be near his younger grandchildren. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Anita Lim, their three children Andrew Lim and his wife Kimberly of Dexter, MI, Frieda Lim and her husband Kevin McClurkan of Brooklyn, NY and Francelle Lim and her husband Michael Brennan also of Brooklyn, NY. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Stephanie Lim, Brian Lim, Oona Brennan, Flint Brennan and Blaze McClurkan, one grand-daughter-in-law Christie Lim and one great granddaughter Eliana Lim who are Brian's family. He will be missed by us all but will live on in our hearts. A memorial service is being planned at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Flint, Michigan on August 13, 2022 at 11 am.
