Fritz Grosskopf Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 4, 2009.
GROSSKOPF, Fritz Joachim - July 10, 1920 - February 2, 2009 Peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family, marking the end of a full and happy life of 88 years. Throughout his life, Fritz was known by his family, co-workers and many friends for his commitment to those he loved, his determination to succeed, and his passion for life. He charmed those around him with his unfailing positive outlook, mischievous sense of humour and fondness for the occasional party. Born in Berlin, he met his love and life companion, Lotti, after service in WWII. They were happily married for 59 years. They immigrated to Canada in 1952 to seek out new opportunity. Dedication and hard work eventually resulted in a prosperous life for his family and a successful management career at Texaco Canada Inc. Fritz was always active, and in particular exercised a lifelong passion for tennis and skiing. He served as past-President of the Central Park Tennis Club. He was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease in 1984 which he fought courageously and without complaint for 25 years. We will miss his pride of family, his courage, and the twinkle in his eye. We wish him love in his new place. Fritz will be missed by his loving wife Lotti, sister Kathe, sons Peter (Lynn) and Martin (Diane), loved Opa of 7 grandchildren Tyler, Connor, Max, Ella, Riley, Ben and Emily. Predeceased by his brother Guenter. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W. (between Islington and Kipling Aves.) from 12 noon Friday, February 6, 2009, until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. If desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Parkinson Foundation.

Dear Lotti: I will remember Fritz's valiant determination in his battle with Parkinson's Disease. I enjoyed our many talks at Wesburn Manor and Fritz's interest in jazz music along with my beloved Dad, Ken Freeman. Please accept my sincere condolences to you and your Family at this difficult time.
