Gail Denk Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 11, 2025.
Gail Denk, age 88, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 17, 1936, Gail lived a remarkable and adventurous life that carried her from her hometown of Chicago to Seattle, Washington; Duval, Washington; Horsefly, British Columbia; and finally to St. Augustine, Florida. She was one of seven children and was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Denk Sr., as well as four brothers, one sister, her son-in-law Eugene Gaumont, and her grandson Joshua DeMala.

Gail is survived by her children, Jacqueline Gaumont and Robert Denk Jr.; her grandchildren, Corey DeMala, Paul Gaumont, and Nick Denk; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Morgan and Emma Gaumont. She is also survived by her brother Donald Schwake and his family, along with the loving extended family of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gail embraced life with courage, curiosity, and a sense of adventure. She helped build a cattle ranch in British Columbia and even experienced living in an actual igloo. Her deepest passion, however, was her love for Irish Wolfhounds. Through her Bu Loach Cu Kennels, Gail became an accomplished breeder and handler of these extraordinary dogs. She proudly showed her wolfhounds up and down the

West Coast and in New York City at the historic Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Beyond her accomplishments, Gail's greatest joy was her family. She loved to dance, travel, and spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her warmth, spirit, and devotion will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

At Gail's request, there will be no official service. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to The Amity Foundation for Healing with Horses, founded by her granddaughter Corey DeMala. Gifts will support the women's program, honoring Gail's love of animals and carrying forward her legacy of compassion through the healing power of horses. Contributions may be made at
