Garth Redmond Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 13 to Mar. 15, 2009.
REDMOND , Garth Douglas January 9, 1964 - March 11, 2009 Garth Redmond of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the age of 45 years. Garth will be dearly missed by his parents, Clark and Arlene Redmond of Calgary; two brothers, Todd Redmond (Brenda) of White Rock, BC and Darren Redmond of Calgary; two sisters, Dawn Redmond and Karen (Ken) Froese, both of Calgary; and his two nieces, Alyssa Froese and Georgia Redmond; as well as many friends across Western Canada. Garth spent the majority of his life in the restaurant, hospitality and music industry where he met many lifelong friends throughout Western Canada. He was proud of his involvement over the past four years with the "Taste of Calgary" where he was able to make a contribution and reconnect with many friends. Garth's travels took him throughout Canada, however, he was most fond of his Manitoba roots. Garth recently visited his friends and relatives in Winnipeg where they graciously welcomed him home with open arms and love and affection. This meant so much to Garth and left an indelible mark in his heart. We are grateful to all his friends, here in Calgary and abroad, that have come back into his life and offered so much care and support to both Garth and our family. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, March 16, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 (Telephone 403-521-3433). The family wishes to thank his family physician Dr. Ernest Bensler and all the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, especially Bernie. In living memory of Garth Redmond, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: 403-256-9575.

Garth- I know wherever you are is a richer place for having you there. Those of us left behind will have to make do with the memories of your laugh, and all the things we did together until we see each other again. If anyone deserves a rest, it's you my friend. I'll miss you always.

I was shocked and saddened to learn recently of Garth's illness and passing. We worked together in the music industry in Vancouver during the '90s, and we shared many laughs and good conversations. I'll fondly remember you, Garth, as one of the good guys. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I am so unhappy that I couldn't be a part of Garth's Celebration of life. I often reflect on the type of human being Garth was and I have a Huge Grin on my face. He will be missed but certainly not forgotten. My thoughts are with the family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Garth's family at this time of sorrow.
Garth came to help us out at the Old Scotch in the late 80's ,first as a waiter and, through smarts, experience, attitude, and a love of live music (ingrained into him from his Winnipeg days no doubt) ,soon took over as GM. Good Times and a great learning experince for us all!
Garth, I am sad that we did not get reconnected as I had always enjoyed your presence, our conversions and the bond of freindship we shared.
Rest In Peace my friend!

Although I haven't had the chance to see Garth for many years I will miss him. He was a big part of my venture into the restaurant/nightclub business at The Old Scotch in Calgary. His contribution to our business was first class all the way. He was a good friend that I will always remember. Rest peacefully Garth.

I wish to express my heartfelt sympathies for the entire Redmond family. Garth was a loyal and caring friend, roommate and employer for the better part of three decades and I will miss him.

Just a couple weeks ago he went out of his way to help me in moving. It just demonstrates to me what a dedicated friend he was to me and many others. I will always cherish my memories of him.

May you find peace in your memories of him as well and if there is anything I can do for any of you please let me know. Bless you all.

Garth and I became good friends as teenagers and I have many happy memories of times we spent together. We drifted apart over the last few years but I am so grateful that he decided to rekindle our friendship and contacted my husband and I about 5 months ago. Garth was a wonderful, kind and compassionate person that I feel extremely priviledged to call my friend.

My deepest sympathies to his family - he will be greatly missed.

Garth will always be remembered for his kind heart and easy laugh. It was pleasure to know him and to volunteer with him at 'A Taste of Calgary' year after year.
