Gary Mascaro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 22 to Apr. 23, 2012.
On Thursday, April 19, 2012, heaven claimed what was rightfully His, Gary Joseph Mascaro. Gary, beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold J. Mascaro Sr., was born on August 26, 1945 in Pascagoula, MS. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and later Baton Rouge High School. In 1963, his senior year of high school, Gary enlisted in the Marine Corps and honorably fought for his country in the Vietnam war until 1969. Gary was a senior piping designer by trade for more than 20 years. Gary spent his life devoted to his true passion, his family. Often considered the true "MacGyver", Gary or better known as Gorilla, could fix anything from a car to a broken vase. He will be deeply missed by ALL for his humor could lighten any room and his strength was that of a thousand men. Gary was truly one of a kind - so giving of his time and knowledge. He carried the weight of his family upon his shoulders his entire life and still does. Daddy, we love you! He is preceded in death by his father, Arnold J. Mascaro Sr. Gary is survived by his mother, Nancy Mascaro; his beloved wife of nearly 42 years, Donna D. Mascaro; his brothers Arnold Mascaro Jr. and wife, Janet, and David Mascaro and wife, Kathy; his sisters: Sandra Azar, Peggy Mascaro, and Wendy Mascaro; his 3 children: Josh Mascaro, Justin Mascaro, and Samantha Mascaro; and his beautiful grandchildren: Taylor, Gillian, and Peyton. Visitation will be on Wednesday April 25, 2012 from 9 a.m. until mass at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in St. Gabriel, La. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary, La. Rabenhorst Funeral Home East in charge of arrangements. (225) 272-9950

I found out about our loss a couple of weeks ago thru Judy Liberto.Went on line last night and found this website. Josh you are so right about not putting off things.I have not had contact with Gary in years and had planned to get in touch with him my last visit to Kentwood but put it off.I still think of Gary often...can not tell you how many people I have shared his stories with. He was one of a kind. I regret not getting to see him one last time.As I knew him "Tarzan" as Sam called him will live on. Hope to see you in another life old friend!
My sympathy to all.

I wanted to thank you all for the kind words to all of us. Dad was one of a kind. I miss him dearly. I just hope we all learn from how he passed to not put off the things we want to do till tomorrow. Live your life, be kind to those you love and don't assume time is yours to schedule. I know he had many things left in his "bucket lists" to do. Love you Pops.

Having been born and raised in Destrehan I knew Donna since childhood. and Having worked in Baton Rouge at H.E.Wiese I met Gary and discovered he married you and a friendship was born. I always respected Gary for his love and devotion to you and the children. For the work ethic he demonstrated and the abilities of his professional and the willingness to help others are traits I will always remember him for. His character is one that should always be used as an example to follow for it will enhance one's life to use him as a role model in life. I will always consider myself very fortunate to have had such a man as a friend and will always admire him and will miss him greatly. Our friendship goes back a long time. Donna and Gary are truely a blessing to one another. Donna and the children are truely your Dad's pride and joy. Rejoice at having such a husband and dad for he will be with you forever. I will always treasure my friendship wjth Gary and am deeply moved by his passing.......Henry and Susan Mitchell

Have you ever gazed at the night stars? Perhaps they are not stars at all, but rather openings In Heaven where the love of Uncle GJ pours through and shines down upon us to let us know that he has found true happiness, peace, and tranquility. God has opened the gates of the Kingdom of Heaven for our beloved Uncle GJ. May His Perpetual Light shine upon him as he is now sharing Eternal Life with Him. Praying for you all, Aunt Donna, Josh, Justin, Samantha, and Grandchildren. May God grant you the strength to get through this difficult time. May He comfort you in the days ahead. Uncle GJ was a "HERO" in every sense of the word! He will truly be missed by all! "Rest In Peace, Gary Joseph".

I have so many found memories of working with Gorilla. He made me laugh, share kind encouraging words. He had a heart of gold. God broke the mold when Gary entered this earth. My life is richer because of him. What a kind, soul you had and so proud to have courageously serviced our country. That's for the memories. RIP my friend.

I want to say it was such a pleasure to know and work with Mr Gary. He was such a good man and always had a smile on his face no matter how he felt or what he might have been dealing with in his life. He is going to missed by many that worked with him and knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this difficult time.
