Brent and Bonnie Wray/Durling
July 18, 2006
From Brent Wray and Bonnie Durling(Dr. and Nurse)Barrhead
Our condolences to the family and friends of Gary.He will be remembered by the staff at Barrhead and many others who knew him as a Great Guy.Also as a bit of a wild guy which made him even more remarkable as he was a terribly hard worker.
He was always ready to lend a hand and one of my colleagues remembers Gary lending him a car to drive when he first came to this country. He also went out of his way to help this Doctor to become more comfortable with this country.
I remember him all the way back to being my student intern in Edmonton and was always impressed with his abilities and his zest for life.
Bonnie and I will miss him at the OR parties-last one I was at he showed up on his motorcycle.
We will miss him but not any more than his patients who loved him and were extremely loyal. They should have been as he went through so much for them.
Again I give my condolences to the family and friends.

I grew up 2 miles down the road from the Nelson family. I always remember Gary reading on the school bus going back and forth from school. Although I had never seen Gary since I left school, I spoke with him several times over the years by phone when making arrangements to transfer one of his patients from the U of A Hospital back to Whitecourt. His patients always had good things to say about his care and attention. My sincere wishes of sympathy to Gary's family.

Our heartfelt condolences to you, Rodney and Micheal. Gary touched so many people in his own unique way-a great legacy not many men accomplish. He will be missed. Please call if there is anything we can do.

I wish to express my condolences for the death of Gary. I was a Medical School classmate of Gary from 1973-1977. During that time he was a good friend of mine. He came to my parents place for home cooked meals and even introduced us to moose meat! His love of B.C. introduced us one summer to Penticton area as Gary, Gary F. and I drove out one summer to that area for a holiday. Those were great years as I learned what a humorous and fun loving person he was. He showed a love for sport with everyone he encountered. He was a hard worker in medical school and I`m sure he carried that into his career. We lost touch after medical school however I really wish to express my sympathy for your loss.

Nadia and family,
We are saddened by your loss. Gary was a one of the good guys, friend, doctor, a good man. He will always be fondly remembered in our thoughts. We hope that you may find comfort that your husband and father was liked by those near and those far away.

Dear Nadia and family: We are so very sad knowing we will not see Gary again to talk or to tease as we have often done. Work is not what it used to be as I'm sure your life is not either. If you need anything at all we are just around the corner and hope you will call if you need anything at all. Merv and Sandy Williams

Dr. Nelson delivered my daughter on June 9, 1994. Because of his knowledge and experience, he saw both of us through an incredibly difficult labour and delivery. I am blessed with a gorgeous 12 year old daughter because of the experience and kind hands of Dr. Nelson. My deepest and warmest prayers go out to his family and friends.

Although we did not have the opportunity to get to know Dr. Nelson well, we did enjoy his stints of "on-call" in Rocky Mtn.House. Our deepest sympathies for your tragic loss.

Dr. Gary Nelson was my mentor to becoming a doctor when I was a young farm woman living on a ranch in Peers Alberta. He was an excellent and competent physician and served his community with great dedication and compassion. He will be greatly missed by his patients, friends and family.
