Gary Lynn Shorter, age 71, from Rigby, Idaho passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at the Idaho Falls Community Hospital.
He was born February 7, 1951, in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Vernon Harold and Ada Imogene Shelton Shorter. He attended various schools as the family moved around a lot. He quit school and went to work fulltime at about age 16. He learned how to shoot pool and became very good at it.
He married Karen Orgill on April 14, 1995. Over the years he worked as a boot maker, a carpenter, framer, roofer and truck driver. He made custom cowboy boots for several of the big-name cowboys in Oklahoma including Don Dodge. He has lived in Rigby for the past 28 years.
He was a deep-rooted Christian with strong faith and good work values.
He loved wood working, camping, hunting, fishing and just staying home with his wife.
Gary is survived by his wife Karen, 3 step children, Lori Dutson of Pocatello, Dusty (Kara) Orgill of Rigby, and Shawna Orgill of Roy, Utah, Four brothers and sisters, Glenna (Mike) Petters of Ninnekah, Oklahoma, Mike (Mary) Shorter of Godley, Texas, Steve Shorter of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Kathy (Tommy) LeJeune of Branch, LA.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 9:30 until time of service. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
