PENTON, Gayle Kathleen (nee Zimmel)
June 26, 1948 - May 10, 2012
Penton, beloved wife of Ken Penton of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the age of 63 years, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Gayle, the eldest of seven daughters, was born in Killam and educated in Edmonton. Upon graduation, she moved to Calgary, where she was a devoted teacher for the Calgary Catholic School District for 28 years. After retiring from teaching Gayle became an active volunteer with pastoral care for many years and enjoyed volunteering at the schools where her grandchildren attended.
Gayle was a very kind, caring, supportive and dedicated mother and wife; a solid friend, mentor and role model to everyone she knew. She was also a first-class grandma, cherishing the time she spent with her four grandchildren.
Gayle enjoyed travelling; especially family road-trips and sitting on the patio with a glass of white wine at their winter home in Scottsdale, AZ. Gayle also had a knack for crafts and spent many hours on her cross- stitch and scrapbooks.
Besides her loving husband of 38 years, Gayle is survived by son and daughter-in-law Marc and Kerri Penton; her daughter Lindsey Penton; four grandchildren, Kayla, Vanessa, Makenzie and Brayden. She is also survived by her mother Pearl Zimmel of Edmonton; six sisters JoAnn (Bruce) MacPherson of Houston, TX; Jackie McMillan of Biggar, SK; Paula (Stuart) Nelson; Colleen Zimmel; and Karen (Ed) Zabinski all of Edmonton and Vicki (Al) Cooke of St. Albert and their families. Gayle is predeceased by her father Harry Zimmel, two infant children, Ross and Bradley Penton.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Church (1100 Berkshire Boulevard N.W.) on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in Holy Family Cemetery at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com .
