Gene Parker "Pete" Lane, 73, of Maysville School Road, Mount Olive, NC, died early Sunday morning, June 23, at Vidant Pitt Hospital in Greenville. Services will be held Thursday, June 27, at 7 pm at Tyndall Funeral Home to be officiated by the Rev. Russ Evans and Tommy Lewis. Visitation will immediately follow the service. Committal and entombment will be Friday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. Mr. Lane, a graduate of Goldsboro High School, had served in the United States Air Force. He had been employed with the state highway department, first as a bookkeeper, and later as an equipment operator. Too, he had been a parts clerk, and at one time, was part-owner of a gas station. In later years, he operated his own backhoe service. Mr. and Mrs. Lane worshipped at Peace Baptist Church in Calypso. Son of the late William Penn Lane and Julia Josie Parker Lane and preceded in death by several siblings, he is survived by his wife, Julia Elmore Anders Lane; a daughter, Kimberly Lane Bowers and husband, Mark, of Fuquay-Varina; two sons, Kevin Lane and wife, Susan, of Louisburg, and Kenton Lane and wife, Karen, of Mount Olive; a brother, Dave Rose Lane and wife, Peggy, of Sleepy Creek at Dudley; three step-sons and their wives, Jerome and Diana Anders, and James and Cheryl Anders, all of Pikeville, and David and Sharon Anders of Beulaville; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and an honorary granddaughter. Memorial gifts may be made to Peace Baptist Church, PO Box 331, Calypso NC 28325. A Tyndall Service.
