Funeral service for longtime Claremore and Foyil resident, Gene Austin Williams, will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Circle of Love Church with Rev. G.W. Luther officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Navy will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service and Crematory. Gene died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at the Claremore Veterans Center at the age of 82.The son of Herbert S. and Ella Mae (Carter) Williams was born Jan. 29, 1927, in Claremore. He attended Claremore High School when he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Seebees in 1944. He was stationed at Okinawa, and was honorably stationed in 1946. Gene met Wahella E. Faulkner and they were married July 10, 1950, in Tulsa. They lived in Claremore and Gene did contract hauling for Woods Lumber Company. Gene and Wahella moved to Cherryvale, Kan., where they went into the cattle business. They moved to Chelsea in 1972, and the Foyil community in 1974. Gene went to work at Rockwell International Corporation in Tulsa. He served as bargaining committeeman while there and after 20 years retired in 1992. Gene was baptized on Aug. 6, 1937, at the age of ten years old by Guy McPherson at the First Christian Church in Claremore. He was a charter member of Central Christian Church of Claremore; and served as Deacon, Trustee, and was on the building committee. Gene and Wahella have been attending the Circle of Love Church since 1984. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jewell Washington; and brothers: Dempsey and Burns Nickerson.He is survived by his wife, Wahella of the home; children: Carolyn McGehee of Claremore, and Chad Williams and wife, Sondra of Tulsa; grandchildren: Shawn McGehee, Shad Francis, Shane McGehee and wife, Aubrey, Shem McGehee, and Shanna Clark and husband, Scott; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ella Grimm of Tulsa.
