George Beall Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 25, 2025.
George Scott Beall, Jr. (January 27, 1957 - January 23, 2025)

George Scott Beall, Jr., beloved son, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, at the age of 67, in Houston, TX, after a courageous battle following complications due to a stroke.

Scott was "born to be wild" on January 27, 1957, in Harlingen, Texas. Born the son of an Air Force career officer, Scott traveled with his family from his birthplace in Texas to Louisiana, Michigan, Newfoundland, Alabama (Auburn), the Philippines, Florida, Alabama (again, this time in Montgomery), and then finally settling permanently in Houston, Texas.

Scott always preferred sports over school. In his younger days, he led his school's basketball team to consecutive championships (his 6'7" frame was definitely an advantage!) and was voted All-Star player as his baseball team's pitcher and first baseman. Not only could Scott hit game-winning home runs, he could also sink a hole-in-one for his school's golf team. Though golf proved to be a lifelong sport for Scott, fishing ruled. Whether in a pond, a lake, a river, or the ocean, fishing was a recreation Scott enjoyed throughout his life. When Scott and his dad joined forces in local Alabama fishing tournaments held at Lake Martin or Jordan Lake, no bass-largemouth, smallmouth or otherwise--was safe!

Music was Scott's ultimate passion and joy. The music that emerged during his lifetime shaped him whether it was folk, rock-and-roll, heavy metal, blues, jazz, country or Southern rock. He could name a song on the first note, reel off every musician on a soundtrack and somehow keep the complicated band split-ups and re-joining's in order. His concert ticket stub collection was a thing of wonder! Scott always kept a guitar close at hand for a strum, a pick, or a tune.

Scott moved from Montgomery, AL in the late 1990's to settle permanently in Houston, Texas. There he worked for many years at DCI as a Collections supervisor. Then what began as a temporary side job for Scott, quickly turned into his permanent dream job. Scott began working for Contemporary Services Corporation (CSC) and Andy Frain Services, Inc., event security companies in charge of overseeing stage barricade and back-of-house security for hundreds of professional football games, rodeos and live musical concerts in Houston. What better way to get a front row seat at the sport games he followed and the music he loved? Genius!

Scott will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He fought bravely, loved dearly, and lived fully. And, next time you find yourself under the open skies, listen closely for a heavenly riff or two playing from above.

"For I must be traveling on, now, 'cause there's too many places I've got to see, 'cause I'm as free as a bird now and this bird you cannot change...fly high, free bird." (Free Bird, Lynyrd Skynyrd)

Fly high, Scott. "Excuse me while I kiss the sky." Purple Haze, Jimmi Hendrix

Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Col. George Scott Beall and Ann (Shiver) Beall, of Montgomery, AL (and originally, of Atlanta, GA); his aunt, Claire (Shiver) Malone; his uncle, Dr. Arthur Charles Beall, Jr.; his cousins, Julie Malone, Justin Malone, Kathryn Arkin and A. Charles 'Charlie' Beall, III. Scott is survived by his sister, Catherine Beall, his niece, Anna Steinbrink, his nephew, William Steinbrink and Corie (wife), his cousins, Rev. Dr. Whit Malone, Susan (Malone) Arkin, and Vincent Beall.

The family wishes to extend a special note of love and gratitude to Scott's dearest friend, caregiver, and angel, Marci Smith, for her hope, her caring, her laughter, her glorious cooking, and her beautiful heart.

The family also wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice Care of Houston, Kindred Hospital of Sugar Land, and the doctors and staff of the Hermann Memorial Health System of Houston.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to MusiCares Foundation® ("MusiCares") at MusiCares Development, 3030 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90404. MusiCares helps the humans behind music because music gives so much to the world. MusiCares does so by providing a safety net of critical health and welfare services to the music community.

I met Scott in 1990 working together at GC Services. Scott had all the attributes of a good man and a loyal friend. We maintained our friendship through the remainder of his life.

Scott could always be relied upon for good conversation, staunch support, or lively argument, whether it was music, sports, or politics. (If I disagreed with him, I made a point to not gamble on my perspective. Bad idea.)

Scott and I played dozens of rounds of golf together. His droll sense of humor kept me smiling through some terrible shots. We went to ballgames at the Astrodome and the Juice Box, where he showed me around the non-public areas. I was always glad when I got to introduce him to my family and friends. I just liked being around him.

You are sorely missed, my friend. Your memory will be with me forever.

I´m so saddened by the lose of a great friend. I will miss our long talks and us almost finishing each other sentences. We shared a lot of good times together, and late night dinners and talking to each other till one of us fell asleep.. I miss hearing your voice, laugh, and your sense of humor.. You will be greatly missed. You were such a dear dear genuine friend. Sleep with the angels until we meet again. Take it easy. 7:14pm/am...

Brother Scotty,

What an amazing person you are, thanks for spending some time with me!
You fought heroically, but your our season has passed and with it the pain you endured.
You fought with a smile and showed so much bravery and courage daily but your smile was infectious and humor kept rising to the hour.
Thank you Marci for introducing us; you are a genuine friend!
To Cathy and family my heart goes out to you all!

Love,

David

I've known Scott for 16 years. He was fiercely independent, loved to gamble, and a good friend. I took care of him for a while when he was going through his cancer treatments. He talked a lot about his sister Catherine and his mother whom he missed very much. There's a lot of things we didn't agree on but we were still good friends. He would call and come visit me in Lake Charles after I moved back. You were never far from my mind and I was always checking on you even when I couldn't find you this last go around. Will miss that funny laugh that you had. Glad you had someone with you at the end because I wouldn't have been able to do it, it would have grieved me too much. Just sorry I didn't get to talk to you one more time. Sheryl
