GEORGE DROSSOS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 8, 2017.
DROSSOS, GEORGE: CELEBRATION OF LIFE JULY 10. George was born in Penticton on July 10, 1936. The son of Greek immigrants who landed at Ellis Island, NY and traveled westward until finally settling in their new-found jewel, Penticton. George and his brothers Nick and Sam grew up and became prolific Pentictonites excelling in many sports, and community events; while perhaps being most remembered for owning and managing the famed Three Gables Hotel. George deeply loved Penticton and grew to become one of its most outspoken advocates. George married Marilyn Conway while at UBC and he and Marilyn soon moved to Lower Bench Road where they lived for nearly 20 years raising 4 children (Cindy, Scott, Katherine and Mark), plus 1 foster child (Louise) and dozens of animals. While living at Lower Bench, George helped manage the Three Gables Hotel while also becoming a part-time orchardist, where he successfully grew and sold many popular Okanagan fruits. George and his family have hundreds of wonderful stories and memories while living at their Lower Bench home. George was a gentle man with an easy smile who loved his routines. Amongst those routines were his devotion to the daily coffee gang at the Three Gables, men's night at the PGCC, Herald crosswords, and his morning pushups. He loved to reminisce about past successes like the Vee's World Championship and dreamed about greatness in everything and everybody he followed and believed in. George coached minor league hockey and little league baseball and was a dedicated sportsman well into his golden years, until his affliction with Alzheimer's would no longer allow him to play. A most memorable golf memory was when George, in 1998, shot a 69 on the final day to win the Penticton Senior Club Championship. It was the only time in George's life that he broke par on an 18 hole round. A few years later, George bowled a 290, just 1 frame short of a perfect 300 game. Even later, George became a passionate dancer and loved to cut a rug with his dancing partner Gail at many of the most popular senior's dancing spots. The family would like to welcome family, friends and those who knew George or his children to attend the Celebration of life on July 10 from 2:00 - 4:00 at the Penticton Golf & Country Club

My condolences to the entire family. I lived across the street from the Three Gables and enjoyed the baron of beef on Sundays. I worked with Scott at the Delta and Kathy is a cherished friend. (Happy Birthday.) My father met him when our family first started with my sister being born in Penticton. When I met him he had a warm smile and a honest handshake that defined Penticton. Georges legacy will continue on to the benefit of the "Place to Stay Forever".
